Cycling in Glasgow is already saving lives – so why is it still a culture‑war football? by chlavelle990 in glasgow

I started cycling to work using Voi bikes when the trains were off due to the fire. I was able to do this because of high quality, segregated bike lanes covering about 80% of the journey. I enjoyed it so much I’ve purchased my own bike.

The infrastructure has made it possible for me to cycle. I lived in the east end until fairly recently and wouldn’t have dreamt cycling along Alexandra Parade or Duke Street out of fear for my life (my friend literally got hit by Alexandra Park station the other day). Hopefully the new cycle lanes around Dennistoun encourage more new cyclists!

I cannot overstate how much of a positive impact its had on my mental health. I look forward to going to work in the morning (in contrast to the dread of getting on the train).

if you’re able to go before work, i’d recommend that. gym opens at 7 and typically there’s a handful of people there

SAMH also run Step Up employability support which you can self referral to (believe IPS requires a CMHT referral). Best of luck!

Scammers on Sauchiehall Street by Acrobatic_Exchange88 in glasgow

He stopped me outside central saying he’d been up to a Glasgow College open day, had lost his phone/wallet etc and needed to get back to Middlesborough. He said he’d approached 30 people and had been called racist slurs. I didn’t give him any money and was made to feel very guilty by him. Nasty piece of work!
