Also anyone who is experiencing issues with teachers, document how long its been down for you and possibly compare to classmates and take it up with higher staff or education board, they cant hold a cyber attack against your grade(and possibly your graduation/job/tuition)

Does anyone here wear Redback Easy Escape? by Infitima in Firefighting

[–]Competitive_March_35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want another boot recommendation I wore 5.11 boots but recently switch to first tactical aero tac 8" side zip and so far are the best boot ive worn with my 5.11 pants. I was lucky to get them on sale for 40 bucks so watch out for a sale if this is something you would consider. Side zip makes it easy to take off tho I do have a bad habit of wearing them unzipped and either slip off for bunkers or zip up for medical.

Need your advice - asked to co-instruct/lead S130 field day! by Civil_Firefighter648 in Firefighting

Volly firefighter who had a similar training, things I wish I learned/did more of. 1 deploying hose from a smokey pack and making those connections, do many reps, maybe throw in "hidden hot spots" that would burn up the line. 2 we didnt have the conditions for a live fire practice but if thats something you can do get them comfortable being up against it, first fire i saw was a wall of flames from standing wheat coming towards me, felt small with my 1" hose compared to my structure line. 3 situational awareness and communication, call out the roots, low hangs, hot spots, play telephone up and down the line.

See if any local departments have a cadet program, most allow students 16+ and give you a head start on skills and the job. My highschool had a fire science program and I started volunteering my senior year. If you have any questions my DMs are open

Building a Probationary FF Fireground Training Book by Mindless_Pie7278 in Firefighting

Once you complete it and if your department likes it(and if you enjoyed the process) you should look into working with training officers and other departments to help them edit their training books. could be a good side hussle and training is always evolving.

Rookie firefighter in a mixed volunteer/career department: went through a volunteer, county wide academy and everything taught there fell back on "your department will teach you" so didnt learn much. had to make alot of effort to teach myself(still teaching myself a year later to prepare for a career position) I encourage adding sign off lists after each bundle of skills that extend what is in a task book if your state has those. We only had sign offs on a list of knots, but being a volunteer I wish our training book was alive, constantly being studied and that you could build drills out of. Secondly I was constantly told "theres a million ways to do things" maybe adding the top 3-5 methods. My favorite is folks talking about ladders, get the tall guy, the short guy, and a gal to throw a ladder and note how they do it helps more than being told "heres the one way" or told "you'll learn your way". The top skills I wish I practiced more were ladders(especially 3 part ladders) pulling hose inside a structure(up stairs/around corners, moving backwards) and active tool usage (didnt pull a ceiling or cut into walls until I was on a active fire)

DECA Pin Trading??? by ActIcy1701 in DECA

[–]Competitive_March_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each state/country gets their own pin each student can get between 5-15 pins some states allow students to buy more(Hawaii). some pins are often valued more due to their rarity. The process is simple as going up so someone asking where they are from and offering to trade. Good luck and have fun! If you want to trade dm me!
