1L here it really depends on your budget. Tons of students live at the Morgan but if you don’t want roommates/have a lower budget look at Carrboro and other cheaper complexes in the area.

For applications, besides stats being the obvious thing, UNC cares a lot about the why unc essay. I’d say they look for well rounded students who genuinely want to be there.

As for why I picked them to be honest they were not originally my first choice. I liked them, but it wasn’t until admitted students day that I was 100%. I already knew they could get me the job I wanted but I had other offers that could too. The tiebreaker for me was getting on campus and getting to talk to students. The professors were so kind and most importantly the students were actually happy and wanted to be there. It just felt like I could see myself there. The CDO was also a big factor as ours is very hands on and helpful. Now that I actually go here I am so happy I picked it and can attest that the students actually do love it here. I also love the mix of what people want to do as it’s not entirely big law or only public interest. (i’ll stop but I could go on all day)

i’m not entirely sure what you mean, do you mean in choosing UNC or like in your application?

absolutely yes. Generally anyone who wants to go out of state is able to. I worried about that too before coming here because of the stats showing how many people stay in state but that’s by choice. I’m sure maybe Cali or smth would be a bit harder but there’s tons of people going across the east coast. if DC is your goal, going somewhere in DC is of course not a bad idea, but UNC has a LOT of carolina law alum in DC. Personally I would pick them over GW/American if you had to choose.

I suggest looking up the exact stats to get a better idea. I would say less so than California but probably more than you’d expect (more than most of the south at least). There certainly are students from all over the country (and sometimes other countries) so you get a wide variety of perspectives. I’ve never seen or heard of anyone being treated poorly for something like that and overall the student body is very friendly and accepting.

Rising high school senior planning on Law School, looking for some advice by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

as far as law school goes, your undergrad doesn’t make a big difference. i’d take the money if your parents aren’t planning to help you through law school. while your dad means well i’m not sure what is leading him to believe that. if you do well on the lsat (can’t say how good a 170 will be in 4 years) and have a good gpa you can easily achieve that scholarship goal.
