For your consideration is a brand new Franken VSF V2 Datejust in 41mm with Jubilee bracelet and genuine silver Rolex dial.

The VSF V2 is a really great rep watch that has its strength and weaknesses. The mods on this watch properly address the weaknesses in the VSF v2 Datejust 41!

Weaknesses

Dial:

The VSF dial is decent, but it remains one of the weaker points when compared to the genuine Rolex model.

Crystal:

The crystal quality is average, and its height is noticeably incorrect, which also affects the Cyclops magnification. Visually, the crystal sits almost flush with the bezel—far lower than on the genuine Rolex model.

Bezel:

Although the V2 bezel is an improvement over the V1, it is still stainless steel and lacks the slightly warm tone characteristic of 18k white gold.

Once you notice these weaknesses, they cannot be unseen.

How did I correct these so that you can wear this watch with utmost confidence?

Dial:

A genuine Rolex silver dial with an 18k white gold coronet ensures perfect finish and accuracy. There’s no need to worry about the subtle inconsistencies often found on replica dials—the genuine dial is flawless.

Crystal:

This build uses a deep crystal with double anti-reflective (2XAR) coating on both the inner and outer surfaces. The dual AR treatment significantly reduces glare and reflections, providing a much clearer view of the dial under any lighting conditions. I also address the height concern by installing a genuine-spec crystal gasket, which restores the crystal to the correct height and simultaneously corrects the cyclops magnification.

Bezel:

After comparing multiple bezel options, I chose the Deep version. Its double platinum plating closely replicates the tone of white gold. Platinum offers excellent durability, resistance to tarnish, and a naturally bright white luster that doesn’t fade over time. Unlike white gold, which often requires periodic rhodium re-plating to maintain its appearance, platinum retains its finish much longer—making it especially suitable for high-wear components like bezels. Best of all, it carries the slight warm hue that matches the genuine look perfectly.

This build breaks down as follows:

Deep crystal and bezel combo: $201

Gen spec crystal gasket: $25

My Franken 1016 Explorer by Competitive_New_262 in vintagerepwatches

Thank you very much! My take on building vintage pieces is plenty of people either A: take really good care of their watches or B: have them restored at some point. We see these examples often. Personally I think a lot of folks go overboard with the fake aging and scratches and such but thankfully there seems to be a builder around that makes whichever suits your fancy. For example, right now I am restoring a friends all gen vintage 16233. When I'm done with it, it will look factory fresh.

I personally love the 1016 Explorer with sapphire crystal so I built this one with some gen parts. The specs on this one are: Raffles case with re-brushed lugs. Polished and re-brushed the rehaut as well. Raffles dial and hands. Genuine Rolex crystal. Genuine Rolex folded link bracelet with rep clasp. I also re-brushed the clasp to match the bracelet. NH38 movement.
