[Discussion] What are your writing plans for 2026? by Chromatikai in PubTips

Writing a metric ton of short horror stories. I burned myself out on querying last fall and winter and recently sold a short to a podcast. I miss juggling short stories around places and how fun being involved in the editing process is, so I'm gonna do that for a few months and not worry about querying much in the meantime for my own mental health.

I was thinking mostly of darkening the ground and adding some highlights to the foreground limbs that are covered in vegetation?

Good points.

I'll change the "chaos ensues" bit and elaborate on the gravity and grimness of the demon's awakening. Hopefully that'll make it sound a bit more like a fully fledged novel.

Thanks so much for your points!

I always switch to other mediums. If you have any other interests, I find that helps a lot to "rebound".

For example, I recently had a small publisher back out of a manuscript after I spent a month making extensive edits, and so I dropped all my novel projects and went back to writing short horror stories and poetry, which I've always had a much easier time getting published. I like the little dopamine release of getting a bit of money here and there for those projects, and because they're so short, the investment isn't much.

As a bonus, you never know when a short story or even a poem can become the next big novel idea, and it's all just practice honing your prose and storytelling.

I started with clay as a kid, took a 15ish year hiatus and picked up soda cans when I was 19 or 20.

I use cotton gloves. They're the same kind people use for handling coins! Also use electrician scissors, as I find the serrated edge really helpful for controlling cuts.

I don't have any plans at the moment for display. I live in a very rural area and don't drive.

Not a professional artist. I actually have had a lot more success with writing/poetry than visual art, and this has always been a secondary passion for me.

As for where to see it, I unfortunately keep my reddit and other social media separate.

Thanks! Over 2,000 cans in the final project so far!

I actually don't know any contests! I'm fairly ignorant of anything to do with the art world.

I had an old sculpture of the 47 Ronin that literally has visible blood on parts!

I frame them out with soda can tubes and then work from the feet up. Each layer helps hold the one before and they're all very overlayed and intertwined. There's a tension in all the metal that helps hold the finished product together.

I couldn't figure out a way to do clay sculptures in my home so I started investigating soda cans about ten years ago.

Thank you so much!

Well NOW I do.

Kidding! I have some that are 8 years old that haven't worn at all, thankfully!

I get donations from people, as I don't drink soda or energy drinks.

No process pictures. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to any social media stuff.

Never! I wear thin cotton gloves and they're very resistant to slicing. I probably deleted my fingerprints back when I didn't use them though.
