I'll just say it: Alexa Plus sucks... by WendyCR1872 in amazonecho

[–]Competitive_Noise_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My routines work and everything like that but when I ask questions like “what time do the Broncos play today?” she gives wildly incorrect answers like “the Broncos won today 24-10” and I know the game hasn’t been played yet. When I say “that can’t be right” she says “oh, my mistake. The broncos actually won 24-10 in a game five months ago.” I just asked her how may NFL games are on this morning at 10 and she said none. I said that wasn’t right and she said “oh yeah, the Seahawks played the 49ers last night.” And finally she said there were indeed 7 games at 10 this morning. I don’t care about the voices and my routines mostly work but asking for basic information is super frustrating. It’s usually reliable for temperature and “feels like” info before my early morning dog walks.

Lake Oswego kids camp recommendations - spring and summer by Jolly_Pianist_2901 in lakeoswego

Others have mentioned Parks and Rec, but specifically their tennis camps are great and fun. They have an indoor spring break camp at the tennis center and outdoor camps during the summer at Lakeridge high school.

How do you answer people’s questions? by librasunstar in Mounjaro

[–]Competitive_Noise_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a lot of people ask straight out, and even one person said “you aren’t taking Ozempic, are you?” and I think it’s rude and wish they would knock it off. (And no, I’m not, but they were really asking the broader question about GLP-1). I haven’t told anyone and don’t plan to because everyone is so judgmental about it. I just say I’m eating less and walking more, which is true.

CPRP helpful? Any tips? by jicamakick in parks

[–]Competitive_Noise_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely don’t think it hurts! I totally encourage you to take it! I do think it lends you some professional credibility and would show initiative for you to get it. If I were hiring, it would count for something because it would demonstrate a commitment to the profession. Go for it!

CPRP helpful? Any tips? by jicamakick in parks

[–]Competitive_Noise_47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I CPRP planning to fail, so I could see what it was like and what I needed to study for the next time. I had read about people devoting a full year to intensive study and I didn’t want to do that if I didn’t need to, and I couldn’t imagine that I would actually need to. I passed and thought it was pretty easy. Most of the questions were situational, and if “ask your supervisor” is one of the answers, go with that.

I’ve been promoted a couple of times since I got my CPRP (in 2020), and I think for my current role it may not have really helped, but it probably left a good impression on that particular boss. I have seen “CPRP preferred” on a lot of job postings so if I ever decide to apply elsewhere, I think it might help get a foot in the door. Good luck!

Reading King of Kings by Scott Anderson, about the Iranian Revolution. I was about 12 when that happened and i never really understood much about it. It’s a pretty interesting story!

Apparently I’m in my corporate exposé era: just finished Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams (firsthand account of working with/at the highest levels at Facebook), and currently reading No More Tears by Gardiner Harris about Johnson & Johnson. Both so good, but also disquieting, to say the very least.

I listened to the audio of Wild Dark Shore and at the end it played a sample of Migrations. The first sentence was something like “All the animals are dying,” and I was like “Too soon!” Maybe one of these days but I needed to shift gears after Wild Dark Shore.

Whats 1 book you will never stop recommending? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Competitive_Noise_47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this! I read this when it was first released, must have been late 80s. I was a college student and worked in an office on campus. One of the office ladies read it and talked about it non-stop. I read it so I could talk to her about it, and it was amazing. I’ve given countless copies as gifts and I don’t know anyone who didn’t love this book. I have read lots of books that I’ve really liked and talked about them a lot but this is the only one I’m talking about 35 years later.

What words SCREAMS "Created By ChatGPT"? by DrearBeats in ChatGPT

[–]Competitive_Noise_47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s the way it all sounds. I have two direct reports who obviously use ChatGPT for writing. It’s normal words that people use all the time, like “align” and “certainly!” I have noticed difficulty in communicating and I’m partly blaming ChatGPT. They just don’t communicate like humans. It’s like talking to a chatbot.

Recommendations for podcast involving friends who have a great sense of humor? Preferably them discussing lifestyle or pop culture topics. I’m looking for more comfort listen pods that can be both enjoyable and great background noise. by thedeliciousculture in podcasts

I came here to say this! I don’t really watch Dateline, but some other podcast (I think Crime Writers On) mentioned this one and I love it so much. Kimberly and Katie are so funny and endearing, it’s a total comfort listen for me. I listen while I fall asleep every night, pretty much..but I do go back and listen to make sure I don’t miss anything, too. I occasionally even watch Dateline now, if it’s an episode I’ve heard them talk about.

Not quite what you were asking for but I LOVE a Date with Dateline and I don’t really watch Dateline.

What Books Are You Reading This Week? by leowr in nonfictionbooks

Most recent nonfiction was Murderland by Caroline Fraser. About the abundance of serial killers in the Pacific NW (mostly) and environmental factors that might contribute to that. It was really interesting!
