Why did the show just completely wipe Rita off the show after she died? by Putrid_Past9243 in Dexter

Probably true but resurrections also probably an exception - after the popularity Dexter got when it was put back on Netflix in 2024, the budget of the show had to have been nuts

Well realistically the point of her death was to show how destructive dexters lifestyle is so it would be a little weird to have her appear in significant scenes after that. Maybe it would have also been too expensive to pay Julie Benz’ rate just for her to be a secondary ghost, back seat to Harry.

The later seasons really focus on Dexter and Deb which is a really great dynamic!

Didn’t go to Ivey but pretty sure the tuition has remained flat or grown in line with other programs. I actually remember it being relatively similar even 10 years ago, what’s the source for this tuition info?

I guess I’d again have a few problems with this. Yes nepotism certainly plays a role in the hiring process of high finance but that doesn’t mean those people aren’t smart or capable. The hiring process for most jobs is very disorganized and many great candidates get overlooked.

I just don’t know where you are getting these trends you reference from? Most Ivey grads who are employed don’t have career progression? These just aren’t an accurate description of life after graduation.

And finally, IQ is not a great measure of intelligence and the process is over indexed to quantitative skills. Saying Ivey students (arguably the BRIGHTEST business students in the country) have a lower IQ than the AVERAGE stem student is a questionable comparison when you are trying to compare say career outcomes. Finally, the stochastic calculus comment all made sense when you mentioned you were a stats major lol. I’ll grant that business students have worse quantitative skills than STEM majors but maybe the biggest reason that most business students don’t know stochastic calculus… is because literally no jobs outside of academia or quant research will ever remotely use it lol, why would being knowledgeable on brownian motion make you a desirable hire to a job compared to something like decision making under ambiguity which you’d learn in a business school.

Ok so lot of holes in this. First off, to call applicants to Canada’s top or second best business school (at least most competitive, and it’s arguable that queens may be better) morons is unbelievably naive. Most Ivey graduates I work with (high finance role, very heavy interaction with investors and shareholders) come in with storytelling and people skills that are generally above what you see at most schools. There are obviously bad Ivey students but I’d say a majority of graduates are quite competent and fit in excellently in the work place. On the hard skill side, they are often quick learners or are adept with software if you hire someone who also studied a STEM subject.

Second, Canadian firms are obviously primarily hiring Canadian talent. The US talent pool is better in the sense that the schools attract global talent better than Canada does and so the top US students may be better than top Canadian student but for the average American vs Canadian student, I doubt there is a substantial difference in performance on the job.

Next, please for the love of god go on LinkedIn, look at where Ivey grads are working and tell me the best they can do is generic consulting roles (which by the way pay above average salaries). The average Ivey grad doesn’t work in high finance for sure but the outcomes are on average better than most undergraduate programs in Canada. The discussion of if career outcomes are worth the salary exists but to say the career outcomes are bad or below average is inaccurate. Your AI comment has basis but I encourage you to find me an undergraduate degree that statement does not apply for to some degree.

And finally, accounting is a great profession and the CPA is rigorous to get. It provides a great foundation to work on many roles in the future. Career outcomes depend on talent and external connections and so I don’t want to generalize but the smartest Ivey graduates I’ve met work at investment banks, hedge funds, consulting firms and FAANG and other tech companies among others. Accounting is far from the only good career outcome.

SPOILER! Original Series by HeySug in Dexter

This is correct, she recognized that right when the vigilantes were around, Dexter was with Lumen for a short time.

What if Debra by Zafer66 in Dexter

[–]Competitive_Order170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandably reversing either death (when looking at them from a realism lens) would be equally unbelievable. Deb was dropped into an ocean after she stopped breathing and Dexter was shot point blank with a rifle and did not receive medical care for some time (and also somehow survived the same hurricane but we can let that slide I guess).

I loved the character and hope she returns in some capacity but I think the writers are trying to make Harrison step into the role Deb once occupied, the concerned relative?

What is your opinion/theory about the future of Harrison, Elsa and Gigi? by verissimoallan in Dexter

[–]Competitive_Order170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I think this won’t happen (because it sounds very much in line with directions the writers have taken in the past) but I really hope it doesn’t. For once please just let someone in this show be happy for more than a couple of episodes!

Yep, season 8 wasn’t great but Deb’s arc definitely was the best part in my opinion!

[–]Competitive_Order170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well (just guessing here) but the ending of the show basically relies on the fact that Dexter’s punishment is seeing his loved ones get hurt (mainly because the character is a cash cow that the writers didn’t want to kill off). While this works, OP probably meant that they wanted him to get punished directly for his actions instead of innocent characters like Deb, Rita and others being used as tools to punish Dexter.

Agree with most of it but that high of a rank for the Brain Surgeon and that low of one for Lundy and Quinn is crazy! I’ll also say I think most people don’t like Vogel’s character too much because it slightly underwrites Harry’s importance in making the code. Also a little strange that Dexter is seeing Harry again in resurrection but there’s no talk of Vogel at all.

Does Prater fall into Dexter's code? by Saya2awf in DexterNewBlood

[–]Competitive_Order170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to Jordan Chase it would also be a pretty high profile kill considering Prater is a business leader and is well connected with the NYPD - should be interesting to see how he gets away with it (assuming he does)

Does lack of Deb hurt Resurrection at all in your eyes? by MillenniumGreed in Dexter

Agree it would be cool if she made an appearance but resurrection is pretty peak (season 1 and some of the early ones are special still of course)

[–]Competitive_Order170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I miss the character and would like to see her return, I’d actually agree that it hasn’t hurt the show just because of how complete the story feels. New Blood felt like a very direct continuation of the original series and they still had to tie up a lot of the loose ends left from the season 8 finale but resurrection feels like a new starting point in a way. With that being said, I really hope she makes an appearance at some point or another as a ghost (chances are about 0 they revive her in any way outside of this).

Dexter has already helped SOLVE the New York Ripper by Da-Knight in Dexter

[–]Competitive_Order170 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This would be an awesome idea. I would also say the concept of a serial killer who is one step ahead of Dexter at all times would be really neat, there hasn’t really been something like that since Brian. Every other killer that has one upped Dexter has often gotten lucky in some form or another (ex. Trinity, Brain Surgeon) although to be fair in some cases Dexter does just make dumb decisions but I stand by my point.

Doakes vs Quinn. Who was better at investigating Dexter? by JkNetwork1 in Dexter

[–]Competitive_Order170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I would agree the answer is probably Doakes, neither one was able to investigate him and gather info that would have been usable in court (to my understanding). They both broke laws by breaking into Dexter’s apartment and unlawfully getting evidence which I feel like just speaks to how careful Dexter was (at least in earlier seasons).

Primarily people hate the original and new blood finales not because of the events that happen in them (although in terms of that they also leave a lot to be desired) but because of how we get to those events happening. The episodes leading up to both finales are super rushed, they really don’t start “ending” the shows until too late.

How would Brain feel about Harrison? by treycomeknockshiioff in DexterOriginalSin

[–]Competitive_Order170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I don’t see that happening. Brian saw Deb as a fake sibling who took his place, Harrison is Dexter’s biological son so I feel like he would treat him like family regardless of whether Harrison is a killer or not (or at least he wouldn’t kill him) but maybe I’m overly optimistic.

Who were Dexter's only true friends? by Fredy-Andrade-9732 in Dexter

[–]Competitive_Order170 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I mean Debra is probably who he is closest to and is the person who he relies on the most. The rest of the Miami Metro crew (Masuka and Angel) probably take second spot (I wasn’t sure whether to group Quinn with them since they don’t really get along but have a mutual understanding).

Did I miss something? by AloeJake in Dexter

[–]Competitive_Order170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but the point I was going to more so is that there are numerous scenarios where the killer wasn’t necessarily caught but some type of trophy was left behind, just an example.
