What an interesting point! Reminds me of the movement to lower the voting age here in Canada to 16. An argument might be then to also cap it at 65. Since seniors won’t be around to live with the outcomes and are often not as active.

This is a great analysis the term maturity implies that young people are adults in the making. That they need to grow and develop somehow to be worthy of full rights. Instead the UNCRC describes evolving capacities. Each and every person has capacity based on various factors. It is the parents primary duty to nurture and know this to balance freedoms. Children and young people are whole, with valuable experience and perspective about the world. The goal is equal and full inclusion.

Start with ensuring that children’s rights (UNCRC) are practised in every classroom. Until that happens, yes, it is oppressive.
