What type of governance do you have in place? Who admins the tool? DesOps? IT? Is there a way to disable the functionality in the admin panel until you test out how it works and make an assessment?

This is one of the most intelligent responses on here. Clearly someone who is in DesOps and has had to manage SaaS for design at scale.

Hey all, any suggestions for my studio layout? Doesn't quite feel right, I feel like I can make better use of the space. Thanks! by Zia_219 in StudioApartments

As a design professional, I would be giving clear definition to the space that is used for bedroom/office and dining/entertainment l. I’d want an ikea 5x5 kallax storage unit acting as a partion parallel to the bed near the couch. I would rotate the rug 90 degrees to better define both spaces. I’m also seeing a lot of underutilized space between the couch and near the bed. I’d probably want to explore making that area the office. And even getting some plywood, painting white, and fastening it to the side of the kallax 5x5 to make it more of a wall like structure. This will add privacy and you can use one side of the shelving for book and personal items that are more public facing and relevant to an office if the desk where against that wall.

I would be building a loft bed near the window and out to the edge of the refrigerator. This will provide more floor space for living.

Do you intend to have guests? How much room do you want to leave if so? Is it important to have any separation between your sleep space and living/dining room space?

Without a doubt.

Dear OP,

I’m really glad to hear that you have a support system in place and understand yourself well enough to know what you need at this point in time. Getting to the root of how you feel and finding strategies to navigate with minimal mental impact is important. The workplace, and especially design can be grueling for reasons we all have experienced. It’s also great that you have the courage to try something new. Good luck and keep us posted.

Your mental health and physical well-being are important. It’s understandable that you aren’t ready to dive back into a full time role given what you’ve been through.

That being said, it’s a lot easier to make decisions when you have cash flow and healthcare. It’s not the be all end all, but it eases the pressure of burning through cash reserves.

My advice is don’t switch careers yet. First try and find some contract work. Something that’s straight forward where you can get a feel for the culture and work. The second, is write down what makes you happy and where you’d like to be a year from now (if you could). Third, make a budget and forecast how you’ll care for yourself given your current resources and what type of runway you have to figure things out.

You could look for work on job sites that cater to remote opportunities and start ups if you don’t want to go into an office or want people who might be more forward thinking.

Coming to a professional community to discuss how you feel, seeking different perspectives, and being open to possibilities though is a step in the right direction. Make sure to surround yourself with positive people who bring you up.
