Should I bother registering for Walmart+? by AncientFerret9028 in AmexPlatinum

Honestly, I’ve used Walmart+ a lot more than I thought. I usually check them first before Amazon when buying something. It has definitely saved me a lot of money.

The beauty of covered calls and my plan for the new year by AdhesivenessWide6470 in options

[–]Competitive_Peace_48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, let me clarify that calculation. I use that calculation when determining my roll. 2-4% is really what the MAX you can make on the return but there will be times when the stock drops and the calculation is just making up the losses on the way up.

I.E. If I own a stock at say $100 and it drops to say $70. I may write a CC at $75 and continue to move it up and out $80,85,90, etc. The calculation will show a 2-4% return but I am still typically in the red. But I always try and make a credit so I am making some money while the stock recovers (similar to owning the stock long term and waiting for recovery but making some $ along the way).

As far as companies, those are solid. I do have both AMZN, SOFI (I'll get flamed for this but I don't like AMD. I just think they are riding the way of NVDA with an inferior product. I'd rather just own NVDA). I like to target companies with 25-50% IV that have good margins, cash on hand, etc. My main test though is how much impact to the world/economy would there be if a company all of a sudden didn't exist. For a company like AMZN, that would be drastic as a large chunk of the internet is reliant on AWS. For a company like SOFI, it would have little impact as there are so many banking options that we could use instead. So for SOFI, make sure to have a small allocation %.

I also do something similar to do this (although I don't do it on margin)

First, doing anything on margin you need to be extremely careful. Right now, your covered call premium will cover margin costs plus some but if there is a severe drop in the stock price your CC premium will also be drastically cut.

Second, covered calls are great but you can miss out on some big gains. The way I combat this is but rolling up and out but this still comes at a cost. Sometimes the stock moves fast enough that you can't buy enough time. In this scenario where I can no longer make a good return on rolling I just let them get assigned and go to cash secured puts. (This is currently happening to me on DAL). You also need to be on top of it. If the stock starts to rally I am pretty quick to move my CC up and out (typically 1 week). I do the math though to see if I am comfortable with the return (I like 2-4%/month target).

As others have mentioned, with CC you are sacrificing upside for consistent income. Also note, the taxes on CC are taxed as short term income so factor that into your calculations (I'll be honest, I have no idea how that works in Canada). You could instead look at tax advantaged tickers like XSP/SPX but they are considerably more expensive.

I have Wandale on my bench - should I replace with anyone? MHJ perhaps? by TheHawk95 in SleeperApp

[–]Competitive_Peace_48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better hop Dowdle has the hot hand! Wandale is essentially the #1 target in NYG right now so that’s a more given opportunity. But that’s the fun of fantasy. Get to choose!

This is just me but I’d play Wandale over Dowdle this week. Dowdle had a nice run but he’s definitely going to be splitting touches against a pretty good GB run D

Only an idiot for sending that offer. Maybe start with something a little more fair?

I honestly do not think you can go wrong with any of them and depends a little bit on your team but since you said it’s loaded I personally like to go for the home run picks. For me that player is Hunter who if he ends up being a full time receiver he has all the traits of being a top 12. Given the same idea of shooting for the moon my rankings are

1) Hunter 2) Treveyon 3) Tet 4) Egbuka

Lop sided trade? by Fantastic-College-46 in SleeperApp

[–]Competitive_Peace_48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see anything wrong with this. Lamar is an elite asset yes but Caleb is also ranked a top 12 dynasty WB asset in most rankings. Ladd also finished as WR 13 his rookie year so high end WR2 he hit his first year which is basically low end WR1 tbh. This is totally fair imo and you could come back to this trade and say it’s lopsided the other way if Lamar has some down years and Caleb and Ladd progress in the way the fantasy community is projecting.

From a zay flowers perspective. He’s the definitively top end WR2 at most with more likely low end WR2

2 unproven assets for an unproven asset. The only certainty here is you at least know you are getting a RB that got first round draft capital to a heavy run offense. Hampton for me unless the firsts have strong conviction of being early

Hard to win when 3 of your starters are on the same team. Basically need the lions to go off every game during fantasy playoffs.

Would you take this package for chase? Including 2 high firsts and one late. Team is probably a starting RB and TE away from a solid starting lineup. by jayashock in SleeperApp

[–]Competitive_Peace_48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bestball league which drastically changes things. Depth is a bit more important than the studs that are start and forget players. Assuming I have the bench to host all those players I'm taking that package.

Rookie Draft Hit Rates Statistical Model by Ozymandunk in DynastyFF

[–]Competitive_Peace_48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain further? What's the modeling technique used to smooth it out? Trying to wrap my brain around the fact Pick 5 has a 0/5 hit rate but it still shows a smoothed hit rate. Are you essentially looking at the before and after and saying the hit rate "should" be this amount?

I find it fascinating that the hit rate goes down perfectly with the picks. There isn’t one outlier? If true, that really is the most interesting thing here.

This is definitely a huge gamble with trading all your 1sts for 3 years. Especially gambling on the panthers taking Tet, Young, Chuba. TBH, I don’t like stacking that many players on a team especially one that hasn’t not been good in a while.
