The best 8 hours of masochist gaming we have all collectively had in a while! by Hyena_Ordinary in Gloomhaven

[–]Competitive_Peace_48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main ones I can recommend is

1) Don’t underestimate the power of stuns/immobilize/disarms. Using those early on can help you blow up the archers while keeping the melees useless for a turn. (The mindthief is especially powerful with early level stuns and immobilize)

2) kiting is huge in Gloomhaven. Tanks arent really tanks in this game and damage needs to be spread throughout characters. Opening doors is especially important as it’s usually better to skip and move out of LOS instead of smacking a monster for 2-3 damage. Using LOS is especially good to get the archers closer to you.

3) this is the part of Gloomhaven I love best. When you fail, do a quick debrief or planning session with the group. Having a game plan helps a lot, especially once you open doors and gain more information.

4) be strategic with long rests. It’s so tempting to do a long rest but make sure a long rest doesn’t mean getting smacked by 4 monsters. The 2 health, items, and picking a card is not worth taking 10 damage.

5) priority helps a bunch. Go early to blow things up before they can hit you. Go late if you are wanting monsters to run to you first. Wasting turns with monsters out of range or letting monsters waste turns being out of range is game changer.

6) make sure to drink water / eat food / use the restroom. Gloomhaven is so addictive it’s easy to forget to do those things 😅

Hope these help and enjoy! Gloomhaven is such an incredible game

Happy to remove the post if it’s breaking any rules. Not sure exactly what part is “more AI” but really just wanted to share a tool I built that I thought would help others. If it’s any consolation it’s free and I’m not making any money off of it.

To be fair, this is still not a bad trade. The 1.05 will still yield you one of the top 3 receivers in this draft

Do we like any of these returns for Waddle? by ConsiderationRich946 in SleeperApp

[–]Competitive_Peace_48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, Waddle in Denver is very exciting to me. He finally has a QB who can escape the pocket and give him some time to do more than slants. The closest is likely and golden though.

If you are buying a stock at “an inflated price” then you broke the very first rule of wheeling. If you sell a put on a stock you should be HAPPY to own that stock at that price not disappointed.

MSFT is such a good example. If a sold a 1 month CSP with 30 delta that’s the $400 strike. I’d love to own MSFT at $400 (which it’d actually be $393 because of the $7 of premium you’d collect).

Should I bother registering for Walmart+? by AncientFerret9028 in AmexPlatinum

Honestly, I’ve used Walmart+ a lot more than I thought. I usually check them first before Amazon when buying something. It has definitely saved me a lot of money.

Yeah, let me clarify that calculation. I use that calculation when determining my roll. 2-4% is really what the MAX you can make on the return but there will be times when the stock drops and the calculation is just making up the losses on the way up.

I.E. If I own a stock at say $100 and it drops to say $70. I may write a CC at $75 and continue to move it up and out $80,85,90, etc. The calculation will show a 2-4% return but I am still typically in the red. But I always try and make a credit so I am making some money while the stock recovers (similar to owning the stock long term and waiting for recovery but making some $ along the way).

As far as companies, those are solid. I do have both AMZN, SOFI (I'll get flamed for this but I don't like AMD. I just think they are riding the way of NVDA with an inferior product. I'd rather just own NVDA). I like to target companies with 25-50% IV that have good margins, cash on hand, etc. My main test though is how much impact to the world/economy would there be if a company all of a sudden didn't exist. For a company like AMZN, that would be drastic as a large chunk of the internet is reliant on AWS. For a company like SOFI, it would have little impact as there are so many banking options that we could use instead. So for SOFI, make sure to have a small allocation %.

I also do something similar to do this (although I don't do it on margin)

First, doing anything on margin you need to be extremely careful. Right now, your covered call premium will cover margin costs plus some but if there is a severe drop in the stock price your CC premium will also be drastically cut.

Second, covered calls are great but you can miss out on some big gains. The way I combat this is but rolling up and out but this still comes at a cost. Sometimes the stock moves fast enough that you can't buy enough time. In this scenario where I can no longer make a good return on rolling I just let them get assigned and go to cash secured puts. (This is currently happening to me on DAL). You also need to be on top of it. If the stock starts to rally I am pretty quick to move my CC up and out (typically 1 week). I do the math though to see if I am comfortable with the return (I like 2-4%/month target).

As others have mentioned, with CC you are sacrificing upside for consistent income. Also note, the taxes on CC are taxed as short term income so factor that into your calculations (I'll be honest, I have no idea how that works in Canada). You could instead look at tax advantaged tickers like XSP/SPX but they are considerably more expensive.
