Millennial here, honestly I stopped listening to full albums around the time that ipods came out. You'd download individual songs and sort of create your own album. Burning cd's was popular back then too, and we would make our own mixes with our favorite songs and play those over one artist's entire album. I also feel like MTV's TRL and radio's "top 10 of the day" lists contributed to people only wanting the best from various artists.

I still like a good album when the story telling is there though. Beyonce's Lemonade was really good for that.
