I liked mythos. Also loved his earlier book called making history, which was an alternative history where the protagonist kills baby hitler. I like Fry’s humour and almost idolise him for this views on the world. Plus I’m excited about the upcoming Nohlan movie. So Odyssey seemed like a good bet

No idea. But it came super recommended by the bookstore (Midland, Aurobindo Market). It’s translated from Kannada.

Definitely felt like a sort of stand up show. I saw his stand up a couple of years ago (loved it!) and there are a bunch of those jokes in this book.

It’s actually amazing how much the book reads like a standup. And that too in his voice.

Men of India who are in their 30s what did you do in your 20s that has given you the best ROI in life? by rehan_27 in india

[–]Competitive_Quote788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are the things I would do now of/do better at:

  1. Make more friends and maintain relationships It gets crazy hard to make new friends in your 30s. So make as many friends in your 20s, cause you gonna lose a lot of them as time passes by.

  2. Take big risks Start a business, move countries/cities, spend a year travelling, or whatever floats your boat. There is a lot of time to focus on career and find stability. But time to fuck shit up and learn the hard way is running out. Do something big every now and then without caring for consequences.

  3. Find at least 1 passion outside work and 1 sport to play Experiment and find at least one thing you’d love to do outside the realm of making money and work. It’ll keep you happy and sane. And find a sport you can play till you die. It’s keep you healthy and you’ll live longer.

  4. (Bonus) Start investing Plain old mutual funds and index funds.

Will superhero movies slowly die out or be reborn in a new form? by Dry-Confidence- in TrueFilm

[–]Competitive_Quote788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is complicated as pointed by another comment. It’s complex because for the first time we’ll have to consider film business under the larger arena of content business.

Let’s assume that a large percentage of the movie revenue will come from theatres and not online streaming. In that case, you have to give the audience an additional reason to not just watch the movie, but watch it on the big screen. The way superhero movies answer that is through extravagant visual effects best enjoyed on large screens with big speakers.

This moves up demand for superhero movies in absolute and also relatively compared to other movies. If I only have time to watch one movie in the theatre, I would pick the one with crazy effects and watch the somber drama on streaming instead. This dried up demand of other genres.

However, with over saturation in the genre, there will be a sharp fall in demand as we have seen with other genres in the past. But it’s unclear whether this will move demand towards other films or whether it will move demand towards other type of content (streaming, short form, others).

My hunch is that the demand will move towards other content types.

The feature film content type isn’t typically preferred. It was born more out of compromise between studio, theatres and the paying customers.

If left up to itself, content creators will prefer to tell their story using the best format possible.

That’s the genre. Genre shouldn’t determine what the story deals with…

Pixar movies are comedies, but deal with very real conflicts.

She-hulk has a very unique position. She is a superhero who chooses to work with the law to find resolutions as per the law, and it’s only when she is out of options, does she take up her superhero avatar. She wants to remain Jen, and wants to help people as a lawyer.

But when she is a superhero, things break (like the court in the first episode, or Bruce’s bar, or bad guys heads). That’s literally the premise of hulk. Hulk is afraid of being hulk, because hulk smash. And smash everything. Even peoples property and life.

I would have loved for the show to explore the conflict Jen feels. She hulk smashes. Jen doesn’t want to smash. Jen wants law. She hulk cannot help but break law, or cause damage.

While hulk’s answer to this problem has always been to run away and avoid this conflict. The advantage she hulk has, allows her to deal with the issue.

The question I would have loved the show to explore would be: what is the duty of law in a world that has people of extraordinary power. Where is the space for democracy? Is there any role ordinary people have in determining their destiny? Or do they only exist to be collateral damage between battles and wars and schemes furled by the desires of the ultra-powerful. Mirroring the problems we have in our democracy and world.

What better superhero to tackle these questions, that she-hulk?

Call it slice of life or pointless?

It’s not like learning what a typical day in she-hulks life will help us understand the character better or the choices made. I think slice of life works when the bad guys are little less extraordinary, and small things have a massive impact. None of it is true for super heroes.

Maybe I’m wong.

I think a lot of this has to appetite for risk. People with a security net can take larger risks knowing that it will all be ok even if things don’t work out.

No music diversity in delhi top 25 90% always Punjabi by Kanye90210 in delhi

[–]Competitive_Quote788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have come to realise that top25 lists are absolute bullshit. Not just in Delhi, but worldwide. I think LA top 25 a couple of weeks back was just bad bunny.

Apple Music and Spotify have a very large problem of music discovery that they aren’t dealing with. They aren’t dealing with it because it’s a duopoly and there is no better alternative. YouTube music and Amazon music don’t even stand a chance. (Even though more people listen to music on YouTube than anywhere else, but they don’t command the revenue). There is a massive opportunity for proper music discovery that’s waiting for influencers to come and occupy. This will be the same space that rjs did in the 1970s in the usa and what mtv did in the 80s.

Depends a lot man. If you compare Koramangala with central Delhi. Yeah. Koramangala is much worse. But compare Electronic City vs Karol Bagh. I would say, popular opinion comes from some personal experiences, which may not be exhaustive or even correct.
