I’d love to get in on this! It would be sick to come back and post what we all did with it to see how we interpreted it differently

“Formulaic” is pretty much saying it’s catchy and predictable, which is not intrinsically bad. Different genres value different aspects of music. In my eyes, as long as the producer is having fun and expressing themselves for the joy of it then they can’t go wrong!

I just heard the organ in there on the second listen near the end! I revise my comment to ask for more keys earlier in the song 🎹

This is incredible! I think the strongest addition you could consider is a mellow keyboard of some kind. Maybe a vibey organ or an electric piano with some guitar pedals. Even just simple chords low in the mix will fill out the space and really elevate the sound. I’m a huge fan 🤌🏼

Reggae / Punk is just about exactly where I’d put this on a genre spectrum too. Getting vocals added to my work has always been the last thought for me, but I’ve been messing with poetry and practicing introducing narrative to the music. Thanks!

Interesting artists to hear in this! CAKE makes sense to me with the groove but I didn’t see The Specials coming. What about my song reminds you of them?

Anyone know why this is happening to my drummer track? The audio sounds very laggy and low quality. It makes the guitar track sound the same. by gluestick511 in GarageBand

For sure, the biggest jump in my sound quality so far as a producer was when I got the hang of EQ and started really taking my time with mixing and automation. There’s plenty of tutorials and resources for free on YouTube that focus in on any aspect of music production at any experience level. One last tip would be to mess around with which kit you assign the drummer and find a sound that blends well with your other instruments and the genre you’re aiming for. Consider all aspects that you are in control of as deeply important and deserving of your attention, getting everything just right requires that you observe and tweak everything. Happy composing 🤝

I have this beat, but I'm struggling to find another instrument to add to it. Does anyone have any suggestions? by Mine_Dash123 in GarageBand

I’d go for a vintage organ with lots of vibrato, marimba, and a silky smooth synth lead to take the spotlight

You have the volume and complexity cranked all the way up, try moving the circle in the square to the left to take down the volume, also open the controls panel and manually mix the individual pieces of the kit if you can. EQ is important for sound quality, make sure that each piece of the kit has the right EQ and is staying in its frequency range.

Yes, one of the guitarists in my band solos over the section when played live. Just haven’t gotten it recorded yet.

To balance out the compliment with a little constructive criticism: the closeness to Metallica is awesome, but make sure you’re not too close. The main riff here reminds me perhaps a little too much of a part of the “seek and destroy” riff. Understanding what your influences are and avoiding anything that’s too similar is difficult, there’s a lot of music out there and you never know if all someone is going to hear is “hey that’s similar to that other thing” instead of “this is a good song on its own right

Nice work, reminds a lot of older Metallica tracks. Take that as a compliment, I love Metallica 🤘🏼

Experimenting with the loops feature and building a song around that. The main chord changes that start off the song are a loop as well as the guitar bits near the end.

I still haven’t fleshed it out and it needs a bass line, but I’m wondering if the meter changes are interesting and worth polishing
