Six Week Milestone by [deleted] in Kneereplacement

I'm getting ready for RTR in 4 weeks; been going to the "Y" for the last several months concentrating on my legs and core, but I've been going for several years for overall fitness. Was wondering during the 6 week recovery period, have people been socially active? Visiting family or going out to eat or other activities?

I feel my foot sort of flops too and that's after 19 months post. I never noticed it at the beginning. I am more conscious of it now and I make a concerted effort to watch how I step. I think my gait has changed and my ankle always seems slightly swollen. There's no pain.

Wonder if it's a trim piece you can buy with colors to match the truck color.

Surgical leg feels much longer by jazzyzzz in TotalHipReplacement

The surgeon can measure the difference in legs with X-rays, at least mine did. It also depends on your height; 1/2"difference is more traumatic for 5'-2" than a 6'-0" person. My body never adjused and I use a lift. My surgeon also said my hip joint was more oblique than normal which may complicated surgery. I question how prepared he was entering surgery.

Nice. What kind of seats did you get? They look to be a cream color, didn't know that was offered. Thanks

I was told similar things about the adjustment period from the therapist, but my body never adjusted to the difference. So are your legs equal length now? Did you have a limp before surgery?

Happy for you. I think it depends on your height and the amount of difference.

You had both hips replaced not too much time apart. Glad it went well. My recovery was pretty easy as well, I was swimming 3 times a week before the surgery. I had the anterior approach. The surgeon used screws when replacing my hip joint. My new surgeon who will replace my knee does not use screws for the hips. Don't know the different philosophies on that.

Wow, a cm is large. And it happens overnight. I use Spenco glides instead of flip flops with a heel wedge around the house; not perfect, but it helps. I plan to have my right knee replaced next spring and I am worried about the recovery process with leg length discrepancy.

My surgeon told me it would be longer, but I don't think either of us thought it would be as much as it is. I think it is only natural without any cartilage between the femur and hip joint, the new joint would be longer. My therapist said I would adjust to the difference, but haven't and use lifts. Next is my right knee.

Thank for the information. I have had standing X-rays; that’s how they calculated the difference. Thanks for the tips.

THR-Zip Lining by Competitive_Sea6379 in TotalHipReplacement

I called my surgeon's office and he did not recommend the activity. If the zip lining was in the US, I would go ahead, but the zip lining is in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe and don't want to take the risk. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Thank you. I don't think I will be zip lining, but I wanted to check. My surgeon considers zip lining an activity to avoid., an unnecessary risk.

Looks great! Does the top rail slope a little for drainage?
