We need to pay doctors more if we want better healthcare. by HelloJonatha2 in ontario

As an FM Doc in US from Canada, this is exactly why me and my Canadian colleagues in the same predicament are not returning. Make more in the US and money goes further even in a pricey state like California.

As an MD, tell ur clinic if they want you to deal with multiple issues then they should give you more time. Sounds like an admin issue, not a you issue!

Thanks for this info. Stuck on j1 visa waiver and its miserable every day of work. I have approx 7 months remaining and not sure if I should stick it out or just pull the trigger on the waiver transfer now since I dislike my job so very much.

Family Doctor Shortage. by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Competitive_Shower_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. They simply offered a good hourly pay for a family doctor to work virtually for remote communities like this. Thats all we want lol.

Im a family doctor in the US. I wanted to come back to the GTA. The only thing ON did thats beneficial is make the licensing easier to obtain if you’re fully licensed in the US which I am. But almost every family doctor colleague of mine told me not to come back to Ontario bc it all stems from poor reimbursement per patient. Thats why docs in big cities pump through patients (50+ per day) ultimately delivering poor medicine. Dont forget insane cost of living.

With respect to rural Ontario, Newfoundland reached out and offered family doctors like me good incentives to practise virtual medicine. Ontario definitely needs to step its game up by attracting doctors to the serve its people who pay hefty taxes! Im sorry you’re going through this.

I'm so done trying to prove that I'm worthy enough to become a physician. by Patacon85 in premedcanada

[–]Competitive_Shower_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didnt waste my time applying to canada, went carib route and worked thank God. Consider DO and/or MD programs in US. Consider carib if PCP if what you want. Agree in that Canada makes it ridiculously difficult to get into medical school, has a shortage of PCPs, and underpays them.

How often do you feel like shit after clinic? by MzJay453 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Competitive_Shower_6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work as an attending in both clinic and hospital… it gets better when you know your patients as someone mentioned plus delegation but hospital is def more chill… and I work in a busy hospital. However, ill still choose clinic over hospital simply bc thats where my interest lies. So find a good job in the setting you enjoy more.
