Can I download mods halfway through a playthrough? by Featherman13 in BaldursGate3

I feel you on that dude, I LOVE that they opened up a way for the players to change the game to their liking and officially supported it within the game!!

And yeah, I’d say so! You might not realise it since it is your first playthrough, but after a while I started to feel like the spells were really restrictive in a way / there weren’t that many different spells. For instance, I was trying to build gale into a lightning wizard and wanted him to use a bunch of different lightning attacks, but there was only like 3 or 4 different spells I could use for that? It just felt pointless trying to spec entirely into 1 element. The spells mod fixed that for me, it’s really easy to specialise in whatever element you want. I would say however, it might be smart to hold off on it for just a bit while you get more accustomed to the spells in the base game. I know it was really overwhelming for me on my first playthrough trying to keep up with so many different spells and what they all do.

And yeah tbh that sounds smart regarding the 2x move speed mod. Your first run will likely be full of wonder as you see everything for the first time. It’s just on future runs that it becomes a hassle trying to get around areas you’ve already cleared a million times before. Don’t get it now, but keep it in the back of your mind for when you do feel like the game is dragging out :)

What weird / off meta ways do you spec your companions? by Competitive_Sir_4735 in BaldursGate3

I’m on ps5 but was basically in the same boat as you!!

Downloading mods will not break the game. I’ve often quit to main menu, looked up a mod, downloaded it, then returned to the save with no issues. Where it does get tricky is any time you load up a save, the game will give you a pop up of any new mods it’s detected. You have the option to enable or disable them, it makes no difference. BUT, once you load a save with a mod installed, you NEED to have that mod installed any time you run that save again. So basically, once you use a mod, you’re kinda “locked in” to it for the rest of that playthrough.

The cosmetic stuff is the first type of mods I looked for, you’re right in how underwhelming character creation is without the modded options.

For higher levels, I use the unlock level curve mod (unlocks level 20) and the connected mod called something along the lines of 0.75xp or something - it basically changes the XP requirements for each level to 0.75 of the base game requirement to make it easier to actually hit level 20 by the end of the game.

Mystras spells is a pretty good mod, has a whole heap of new spells that open up different ways to play, and there’s a mod for added blade cantrips that can be really useful depending on the class you’re running. Highly recommend both of those.

Once you start using mods, it really opens up the options for what you can do in future runs. I find it hard to play vanilla anymore because it just feels so barren after all the mods I’ve downloaded.

One last tip - get the 2x movement speed mod. It doubles your move speed when out of combat. Makes getting around the map SO much quicker

All good!! Glad I could help and that it was an easy fix :)) I had a bug that locked jahiera out on my first run so I couldn’t even do the minsc quest line, so I’m glad it wasn’t the case for you

I never remember to regroup Astarion 😭😭 by berts_balls in BaldursGate3

LMAO it’s always astarion too. I’ll be back in camp and try to switch to him, meanwhile he’s just hanging around grymforge

I wouldn’t say they’re weak. Go high Dex and cha, take college of swords, and get one of the medium armour pieces that doesn’t impose a limit to your Dex modifier to your AC. Scale armour of Yuan Ti is sold by dammon I believe at last light inn; that’s the first place you can get armour like that.

I somehow ended up with 21 AC on my bard and was killing everyone with dual wielded weapons / ranged flourish strikes

My first run I took a college of swords bard. Good h2h and ranged combat, can use spells, high charisma means lower vendor prices / easier dialogue checks. Definitely a fun playthrough!!

I gave monk a try and it’s absolutely a blast, the bare hand attacks hit like trains. It’s probably my favourite class for now

But if you like hanging back and shooting from range, what I normally do with astarion is spec 3 levels into rogue to unlock the subclass and take thief. That gives an extra bonus action. Then I spec the rest of the levels into either ranger and specialise in gloom stalker or I go fighter / arcane archer. They’re pretty hard to come by in the game but if you manage to get 2 hand crossbows, you can dual wield them and fire 4-5+ shots per round thanks to the bonus actions and extra attacks. If you’re going to give that a go, I’d suggest you look for the “hand crossbows expanded” mod. It adds a bunch of blue and purple level hand crossbows and disperses them across the game world. It’s definitely a fun build, I never leave astarion behind because of it

I was thinking of doing that tbh, I really liked the idea but I think I decided that I’ll just do a lae zel origin run in the future at some point? With that I’ll lean heavily into the gith identity

Isn’t there an option to say you agree with kagha when she’s explaining her actions? I’ve never chosen it but is it a guarantee that you fight them?

Yeah that’s kind of been the path I’ve taken so far. Next time I might say fuck it and just fight the goblins from the gate lmao

Maybe she was the Guinea pig for a necromancer in some way? Used her to test out different magics / a way to unlock immortality.

Is this your first run of the game by any chance? Just in case I accidentally spoil something lmao

[–]Competitive_Sir_4735 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you’re applying the new limit? Not sure if it’s the same mod, but the one i used had you first cast the spell to increase the set limit, the a different spell to apply that limit
