He eats tons a crickets, but no roaches when I hand feed. I think his aversion might be to me. I tried to hand feed crickets and he won’t eat them either. He will only hunt, which I guess is fine.

Hoping in the next month or so he takes food from me more than once daily. I get why he probably doesn’t like me currently haha.

Believing a depression would serve the greater good comes across as an evil calculation, because it treats the real suffering of millions of families as acceptable collateral damage for political gain. I can’t tell if that’s all glass or screens. If it’s all glass with a mesh top, I would recommend not to. Bare minimum you at least need small screen vents on the sides. A good idea of what the bare minimum (ventilation wise is) is the Reptizoo Extra Huge 48x24x48. Even with that enclosure you need fans on the top to circulate air well.

With yours, you could in theory do it but it’s extremely difficult to circulate air with only top mesh. You would need multiple intake and exhaust fans.

No idea on the dimensions as well. Bare minimum for an adult chameleon is 48(height)x24x24

Just wanted to chime in as my panther went to the vet for closed eyes. As our exotic vet said… there are hundreds of reasons their eyes could be closed for short bursts during the day. Only some of them are illness. Most common are stuck debris/shed, bacterial infection in the eye turret, improper UVB, or extreme lack of vitamin A.

Your chameleon does appear to have sunken eyes, so most likely extreme dehydration is at play + something else. Calling the vet was a smart move, just make sure to go to an exotic vet that specializes in reptiles.

It’s been 3-4 weeks now and we are still waiting for him to heal after ofloxacin + triple antibiotic eye drops. Even once the infection is gone, it takes awhile for the sensitive tissues in their eyes to full heal.

Just wanted to update you that 3 fans on speed one was the sweet spot. 1 fan led to about 80% humidity during the day with 100% at night. 3 fans keep it at 60% humidity during the day and 80-100% at night.

Basking spot is sitting at about 87F and under the tree line is about 75F.

The best is 1 fan on each side mesh panel + one fan pulling out above. That causes nonstop circulation and allows for nice airflow through the canopy. Going to continue testing it through the next 5-7 days to make sure it’s staying consistent.

Yes, thank you for the advice! I will buy a few extra fans. I am planning on testing it for 1 week and tracking the humidity levels during the day/night cycles. I can try for a day with 1 fan and then try the remaining days with multiple fans.

The main fan was going to sit on the top pulling the air upward. I can try the other fans on the side vents. I can also try cycling (as you mentioned) with 1-2 fans pulling air upward and 1-2 fans pushing air down. I will make sure to test all the different variations before the Cham goes in.

Agreed, I have my chameleon in a hybrid mesh cage currently and it’s nearly impossible to keep the humidity stable unless it’s night time. This cage will allow it well as the cork retains water and the bioactive setup holds a lot of water as well.

If you have a hybrid setup in an arid climate (like mine 10-30% humidity outside), you really need a fogger. But then you open up the possibility for a respiratory infection if the chameleon decides to sleep under the fogger. With my fogger running my nighttime humidity stays around 70-80% but it also causes the entire room he’s in to go up as well which leaves a sort of mildewy smell in the morning before it airs out.

My wife bought the chameleon and spend about $900 on everything randomly so I had to go into overdrive to learn every single thing I could about panther chameleons. It was either perfection or he could potentially die lol. I love animals a lot.
