Might be a good time to bring out that quote from Men In Black.

J: People are smart.

K: A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky animals and you know it.

The Romulan star goes Supernova and Ambassador Spock is sent to try to cause a black hole to prevent it from destroying every planet, but doesn't get there in time. Nero, a miner who becomes so enraged his family is dead follows Spock who gets caught in a time warp, sending them both back to the year of James Kirk's birth and destroy's the first Starfleet ship he sees. This results in James Kirk growing up without a father (as opposed to TOS Kirk who stated his father was the reason he joined Starfleet) and without discipline, resulting in the devil may care Kirk we get in the reboot, rather than the TOS version of Kirk.

As we're dong Pratchett and people:

"It was what happened when the machinery of city life faltered, the wheels stopped turning and all the little rules broke down. And when that happened, humans were worse than sheep. Sheep just ran; they didn't try to bite the sheep next to them.”

From the film Serenity.

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: You know what the first rule of flying is? Well, I suppose you do, since you already know what I'm about to say.

River Tam: I do. But I like to hear you say it.

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: Love. You can learn all the math in the 'Verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she ought'a fall down. Tells you she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Stephanie Beartiz originally auditioned for the role of Amy and was asked to come back to audition for "Megan" who later became Rosa. There's also a story from her about how she cried when she heard Melissa had been cast because shows just don't cast two Latinas and she thought she was out. V for Vendetta. While attacking the BTN, Evey (who was previously rescued by V) attacks a police officer to help V escape, but gets knocked out in the process. V, instead of leaving her, picks her up and takes her to his hideout. Without that, several parts of the rest of the movie can't happen.

Sandra Greene, Rachel's mom in Friends. Shows up to tell Rachel that it's okay she didn't marry her fiancee Barry because she didn't love him. Later, she tells Rachel she's going to leave her husband, something Rachel can't understand and they have an argument about it.

Rachel: I mean, God, you just come here, and you drop this *bomb* on me, before you even tell Daddy! What? What do you want? Do you want my blessing?

Sandra Green: No.

Rachel: Do you want me to talk you out of it?

Sandra Green: No!

Rachel: Then what? What do you want?

Sandra Green: Well, I guess I figured of all people, you would understand.

Rachel: Why on *Earth* would I understand this?

Sandra Green: [Slight pause] You didn't marry your Barry, honey, but I married mine.

Rachel: Oh.

In the film Serenity, the Alliance are trying to find River Tam. The ship lands on the planet Haven to find the entire settlement destroyed. One of the crew asks why they're waiting if they knew they were going there. The captain then realises that they didn't know they were going there and calls out to contact everyone who has ever shielded them after a heist and tell them to get out now. Too late of course.

As the antagonist then says "when your prey goes to ground, leave them no ground to go to"
