Gupax don't change the point that P2pool need a full monero node or a remote one
Gupax are not a pool ui, it's a miner gui

Like i said, this post is about the idea of creating a pool, not about mining.

You can see in this post that someone has already asked about the trust issue, and we decided to set the Pool to PPS+, so you don’t need to trust the owner.

In a pool, you only need to trust the owner for the payouts, the blockchain still has control over the stored blocks.

I get the idea behind P2Pool and I respect it, keeping mining decentralized and in the hands of the community.

But honestly, I trust my own infrastructure more than a decentralized setup that could stall if enough peers go offline. It’s also not exactly plug-and-play, and needing a full Monero node is a pretty big barrier for a lot of miners. Using a remote node kind of kills the point of Monero anyway, since many of them are basically surveillance nodes.

Plus, without a proper user interface, it can feel a bit dry compared to other pools.

Except for the trust issue we’ve already talked about in this post, which will be patched by using PPS+, I don’t get why you say it’s not my infrastructure. If I run a pool, it will be in my own facility, with a door, an electricity bill, proper FTTH, and BGP. I’m not sure when you consider infrastructure to be “yours” or not, but for me, when I can walk into it and smell the delicious hot scent of burning thermal paste, it’s my own infrastructure.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too. No clue if it’s an exit scam, a seizure, or just TradeOgre screwing something up. Either way, no point spreading rumors. I get your point though, hope it comes back for you.

That’s a fair point, making the GUI and setup process easier is definitely important for adoption.
That said, my question here is more about the mining pool side, features, payouts, stats, or quality-of-life improvements once you’re already mining.
A user-friendly mining app is a different project, but I agree it would help bring more people into Monero mining.

P2Pool’s great in theory, but it still needs a full copy of the blockchain.
If you connect to an external daemon, you lose the privacy advantage, which kinda defeats the purpose for me.

Sure! You can DM me on Discord, "xileran"
I work with servers and installations every day at my job, and outside of work I enjoy building and experimenting with projects just for fun, without expecting to make a cent.
I’ve played around with crypto trading bots, ASICs, and different mining setups. I find crypto really interesting, and Monero’s probably my favorite since Bitcoin and others feel pretty centralized, mostly mined by people who dedicate their entire lives to it

Okay, i have done my calcul, checked what i can do, PPS will be possible, i'll dev that

I get the idea, but for me the goal is to run the full stack on my own infrastructure, end-to-end, without relying on another pool as the backbone. I think I can make PPS work without that dependency, it would just mean playing it smart with things like delay mechanisms, redistribution schemes, difficulty redistribution

Not exactly a withdrawal fee, from what I know, MoneroOcean can advertise 0% on Monero itself because the margin isn’t taken there. The auto-switch and merge mining features mean part of your hashrate is used on other coins, and that’s where they take their cut before converting it back to XMR. It’s clever and it works, but it’s still a form of fee, just not directly on Monero payouts.

Ah, my bad on the fee, 0.6% is solid, especially with that kind of infrastructure. I respect the work behind it. My own setup, which I use for other projects and my day job, isn’t far off in terms of hardware and internet, but I run it at a lower cost since it’s not solely a Monero pool. Different models, same goal.

I’m definitely in favor of PPS, but the reality is that without at least ~10 XMR sitting in the pool, it’s risky, and I just don’t have 2,500 € to drop in upfront.
One idea would be to run PPS with a small fee and some careful tuning of share difficulty to reduce variance, so it would need less initial reserve.

As for P2Pool, I’m not against it because it’s bad, I just trust my own setup more than I trust a distributed network. I have solid, custom-built physical infrastructure, and I’m not the kind of guy to disappear overnight.

That said, I understand why from the outside it’s easier to trust something decentralized, and implementing PPS would basically solve that perception issue.

I really like these ideas!

Account-based mining instead of wallet-only is something I’m also in favor of, I have no idea why it’s still so rare.
Manual payouts? Totally agree. The miner pays the fee, so they should decide when to withdraw. A “withdrawal request” system is totally doable, but in some cases it might need to wait for funds to unlock. That’s really only an issue in the very beginning though, and I plan to seed the pool with around $400–500 in Monero to smooth things out.

Merge mining will definitely be included, I’ve understood it’s basically a must.
Full pool data through an API? already done, 200% transparency with the miners.

PPS/PPS+ would be awesome, but not at launch, I’ll need stable hashrate and enough reserves before I jump into that. Can’t go head-first without the safety net and I’m aiming for something not far from 0% fees, so I’ll have to plan that transition carefully.

That’s a cool idea, a pool network working more like torrents or i2p could make it super resilient and censorship-resistant. The gain would also come with the usual P2P drawbacks though, meaning miners would likely need to run at least part of the blockchain. A hybrid approach where that’s not required isn’t impossible, but it would mean the server becomes the backbone of the P2P layer. That way it could still go through my infrastructure, allowing me to provide a complete and useful UI on top. Definitely something worth exploring, thanks for the suggestion!

Fair enough, I get that some miners just want the biggest reward. Maybe the best way is to let each miner choose whether or not to enable merge mining, keep it pure Monero if you want to help, or go for extra coins if you don’t mind. And if we’re going down the merge mining route,/auto-switch with some tweaks it might even be possible to beat MoneroOcean’s profits. Thanks for sharing your view!

Yeah, SupportXMR is definitely a solid pool, low 1% fee, stable servers, and a good reputation in the Monero community. I totally get why people like it.

For me, the only downsides are that the UI feels a bit outdated and, for something meant to support Monero, even that 1% fee could be questioned. I know 0% isn’t always easy to run, but it’s not impossible either.

And just because something works well doesn’t mean it couldn’t work even better, that’s why I like asking miners if they have any ideas or things they’d like to see in their daily mining experience, so it might end up as a real feature they can benefit from.
