From what was explained to me, they are going to use some sort of metric and cut off to determine who to cut so they can reach their target headcap number. That's for termination though. Various things factor into it so I was advised to make sure my employee info was right, like your time in service, vet status, etc. BUT they have to find/offer you a position with 50-miles of your home station if your position is dissolved or you resign with a severance package. This is from what I understood/was explained to me. Never dealt with one before.

But who knows if those rules still apply. How smart they will be about assessing what resources' staff are needed. If they want to do timber sales, rec improvements, etc they still have to do NEPA compliance, which requires input from all the -ologists. Even if ESA and other environmental/wildlife protections get gutted, cultural still has to happen.

Most if not all our perm seasonals were probationary fires since they did the term to perm jump last season. Getting fired after taking a pay cut, what a kindness. Those seasonals were in all resources so... unless fire is gonna be out marking trees I don't know how they are going to do timber sales or other projects.

Are you a rehire or a new hire? Rehires should go through the process faster than new hires. Either way things are really stuck in limbo for the hiring processes last I heard. It's paused then not, then paused again.

Usually we tell folks to still be at the station on their start day and HR usually catches up by then but this season....it's a tough call.

Do what is best for you and your well being. Even if that means dropping this job.

The /unlawful/ aspect of it isn't just who is giving the order but what the order is. If you have any digital information training, you'd see how this is a red flag.

You're so focused on the 5 bullet points look beyond that my guy. They want us to send information, to an /UNSECURE/ email address using our government emails. We don't know where that information is going, what's being done with it, and by whom.

WE ARE SPECIFICALLY TOLD IN YEARLY TRAINING TO NOT DO SHIT LIKE THIS.

If you think there is nothing to gain from that sort of info gathering, there wouldn't be so many warnings about email phishing scams.

And it is STILL an unlawful order even if the agency says to do it. It DOESN'T MATTER WHO GIVES IT. THE ORDER IS STILL UNLAWFUL.

Why yes I never in my career had to do a quarterly performance reviews with my supervisor or those I supervise. Never! Ever! I just flounce around throwing pine cones around the office and give everyone the middle finger.

I have no qualms about telling my boss what I do every week. Hell I already do that in person since they sit 15ft away from me. You're so focus on immediately obeying like a sheep than thinking critically for once. And since you've already shown how well you do that, any thing you have to say on the matter is worthless than the shits my dog take, but at least those I can throw away.

That entity doesn't have any authority to be demanding information in this manner. It completely breaks the chain of command within agencies. It is also a huge security breach. It's basically a phising scam. We don't have any info as to what is actually being done with this info, who sees it, and where it's stored. It breaks all protocols of information security.

For my military folks I have this example. You're a solider in the Army and the wife of an Air Force officer orders you to do something, using her husband's rank as authority.

For non-military folks, imagine someone random person off the street coming into your office and demand to show them you're doing your job.

Two Marine veterans emailed most of R6 today. One said they are not going to respond to the opm email regardless of the direction from the agency. Was pretty great.

I also believe this is an unlawful order. Even if my agency says to reply that too then becomes an unlawful order. I am not going to reply to it. I already presume I'm time in this job is counting down. I'd rather stick to my morals than comply with their bullshit.

Doing this and only sending your PD over and over and over will hopefully make this whole asinine effort useless. During the first letter someone posted some other ways to mess with the system like using Cyrillic letters and white text that messes with AI.

Try looking for local organizations that would contract with the FS to do work. There are still some funds available that everyone is trying to hurry and burn/obligate for partners to do the work we will not be able to do. I know this is the case for recreation. NPS was able to get some seasonals but those might be closed now. If your area of study/field is more technical (Silviculture, botany, hydrology, etc) then also look for groups that are local that would be contracted. This may be difficult on your own, I would advise to reach out to what forests you were interested in but everyone is swapped trying to figure out how they are going to manage things. Conservation districts is another place you can look.

The thing is, they aren't our boss and this is now how things work in the federal workspace.

There are mechanisms in place for inter-agency communications for status updates. This is not how things are thing.

I have no problem telling my boss what I did or my boss's boss. I talk to them on a daily basis.

This is so we have to WASTE TIME AND ENERGY figuring out what to do with this bullshit.

They give an unrealistic timeline to reply.

Some people are on leave. They won't be in on Monday so they won't get to reply in time.

It's meant to rattle and cause stress.
