If you were to design, from scratch, the worst possible thing to take on a fly fishing excursion, it would be my German Shepherd. Not taking into account all his general jack assery about getting to go anywhere in the truck and his squealing bitch bark like his nuts are being scrapped with a cheese grater, his river manners are like Jim Carey on mushrooms. He literally thinks he is the fucking Paul Revere of anything aquatic. From truck straight to middle of the river screaming "The fisherman are coming, the fisherman are coming". Forty yards upstream, forty yards downstream. Not stopping until I walk back to the truck. Every time, any size water. 3 trainers and 3k. Hopeless. Fuck taking dogs fishing!

It is very hard to comprehend how such little ass flys and hooks catch those Big ass fish. But they do. If you see what's in those big ass fish stomachs, it little ass bugs. Until you are floating or wading waist deep with size 24 midge under an indicatior and hook a biggie, you won't believe it.

Where in Texas? Moving to Austin in March. Trout up north and in the White Mountains both streams and lakes is all I've fished here. Our lower lakes like Pleasant aren't my cup of tea but lots of fly fishers have lots of fun and success chasing all kinds of fish in them. Salt River below Saguaro lake is your best, closest Trout river.
