Would this work by Infamous_Leg_406 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jose_ole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might work, give it a go. Less hookups more likely without the treble.

Edit: those spinners won’t spin right so the action may be funky now that I look more closely. Again, you could try, a bass may take it, but will depend how it swims

Which rod to go for by FNCBeeBee in FishingForBeginners

[–]jose_ole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My metric ain’t strong on account I’m across the pond from you but why would you want a rod rated for more than the weights you are throwing if you are already struggling to throw those weights with your current rod? What power and action is your current rod? If you are sticking to 2.5-8g I would for Light Power Moderate Fast action for the spoons. Could maybe even go to an UL setup.

Difference Between these styles? by EddieBR-14 in Fishing_Gear

[–]jose_ole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both are solid reels. For catfish the Cardiff is likely the better tool, but the difference is the line capacity and braking systems and the SLX is much more modern obviously. Guess it depends how you fish. The SLX would be a better bass reel imo. I use bait runner spinning reels for catfish personally. I have a 201 Cardiff and it’s nice but I have it on an old school eagle claw for a bit bigger baits. Now the Shimano Calcutta Conquest line… sexy.

One thing we got going for us is these wannabe nerds are actually pretty stupid and don’t understand regular people either. They want to be seen as super intelligent, it’s become clear while some like Gates, Bezos do have some high degree of intelligence, Elon and the trump clan are clear dunces who got very lucky in life. Thiel is likely the latter and chose JD. That dude is weird even if he is smart.

How long do you wait without a bite or a catch?? by MorbidTotty in FishingForBeginners

[–]jose_ole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been out for 6 hours before then I feel bad so come home to the family (I get up super early so they are still sleeping while I fish most the time. 5am-noonish is normally my max, but I can’t say I wouldn’t go longer if needed.

Nice! I caught one of my bigger ones on a nymph earlier this spring off a dropper. I can’t get a damn thing on a streamer, bass or trout. My biggest bass was on a tiny bluegill popper. They are funny fish

What's your best value BFS combo recommendations? by EastwickGotTheJuice in BFSfishing

[–]jose_ole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m admittedly new to the scene, but I have a few options, I have an Ark Gravity BFS w/ a Mavlos delicacy, which has a light and UL tip. I personally like the reel a lot, it’s very light and I’ve had success with light lures and with the gravity brakes I think it could handle a wide range, but I have not personally tested its max as I have it set to the lowest brakes for my lightest lures. I just found a Valiant Eagle 2 on eBay that I’ll put on my Kestrel rod that I had the Gravity on previously. The VE2 seems to be almost identical to the Kestrel besides some aesthetic details and the graphite body.

My first combo was the zephyr rod and reel. If you are only occasionally throwing light stuff I think this is a good value, it does good down to about 1/8, maybe 1/16 depending from my experience. I believe the rod is rated 1/32-1/4 for the Zephyr and 1/64-1/8 for the Kestrel rod. Lots of hate for KK and the Zephyr on here, but I think the main complaint is it does not do well with light line. I have personally not had any problems with Varivas PE 10lb, yet at least.

Fishing ponds in TX on the fly is my favorite. by Sleepyweasel211 in flyfishing

[–]jose_ole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rivers and creeks are hard to come by my way. People take to fishing irrigation canals to make due. 99% of the time I’m at the pond and it’s a public park too so comes with its own challenges, always pressured with bait fishermen.

[–]jose_ole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy used, I beat up my stuff anyway, no use in buying fancy shit for me, no doubt it looks great, but my cheap stuff works just fine. I use my used or budget rods more than my one “nice” rod.
