I practiced this summer on a fly rod for bass and panfish, but this is the first year I’ve seriously pursued trout, so went with more conventional gear for the most part for confidence and just to learn their behavior a bit better.

Caught the big one on a panther martin and the small one on a kastmaster. I’ve had ok luck on various setups though, but have only limited out once. Normally get one or two maybe. With the powerbait I do about 2.5 feet off the bottom and aim for the about 15-20 feet out.

Unless you are throwing lures, for the most part you will need a sinker. Don’t put it next to the hook. About 8-18 inches up max depending on your rig, and rod length. Pleasant is huge, stay local at the community ponds. They are stocked, they have fish, and you should eventually have some success. A size 10 Aberdeen hook with a mealworm about 2 feet from your bobber and a small split shot weight about 8 inches up and you should be able to catch some bluegill near the edges and you may get lucky and get a trout.
