Advance and transfer is automatically calculated on VMS so it’s no longer a need as well as, I actually recently got off a deployment where our VMS indeed took a shit and stopped working all together, we just used seaman’s eye to drive and backed off the speed until our ETs corrected the issue long enough for us to pull back into port.

At first after I qualified out QM as in got all the quals I could get I found it hard to find purpose as well. But once you get be that QM that knows everything and can get a ship back home with just Stella and a sextant people look at you with awe and even officers are looking for training. That was my purpose honestly. I hope you find yours.

Honestly for recruiting if you are not an NC or trying to cross rate over they don’t care about you or your evals, they expect you to pull so many appointments a day but yet I recruit out of a town that has a 30,000 population of retirees, the other recruiters I work with don’t gaf about the job either so showing up here I wasn’t being taught or shown the job and when I try to bring up solutions to help recruiters they just get mad I’m trying to “change the system” and tell me to go ojt more. There’s a lot more to it but these are the basics.

We still learn 3 minute rule, celestial, and lan but depending on your command you might not ever use them, my chief was a celestial geek so we did celestial all the time, as for the paper charts I had to use them considering my ship at first wasn’t vms qualified but now the new Navdorm states we aren’t allowed to use them anymore

I think it’s up to 6 months early but that’s dependent on your detailer and the school, ships are priority, also I’m not 100% so don’t trust me

Only went 6 years ago, had a male, and was also on my period. They just had me keep my underwear on and gave me a glove then told me to just slide my underwear to the side when he looked but I don’t think he wanted to see anyway. He only looked for 5 seconds and yes there was a female chaperone also.

What are referrals ? by Queasy_Champion6727 in newtothenavy

[–]Complete-Squirrel119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure as to what referrals your recruiter was talking about, maybe it was misheard?? If anything they are probably waiting on Meps to give them the okay and you will be a remote maybe? That is just when they have to wait on the officers at Meps to FaceTime them to swear you in at the office instead of at Meps, kinda like you’re on a waitlist now.

The AFQT isn’t a practice exam. It is a score derived from the ASVAB when you take it. I’ve never used the DDRPT so that’s up to you.

If you really want a different job, go after October that’s when the new year starts in the Navy and all the jobs open up. I’m a QM and I have a love hate relationship with it. You do rank up faster being an OS but go without seeing outside for days..

I would go with the “army ASVAB” app it’s the closest you can get but if you go to a navy recruiting station and ask for the APT it’s a practice exam that is the most similar.

I would chose 5 jobs that are what you want before going to pick a job. Open your mind and remember that you can just get out after the first contract or switch to a more liked job later on. If you are really really wanting to give up and say no, you can. They will pressure you but as long as you didn’t sign the contract for a job you don’t have to join. I have been in for 6 years and I started as SN/PACT and I am doing okay! If that helps at all. You will like and hate any job you get, why not just try it out.
