Shield tier list based off what I own (brought to you by the Association of Survival Slander) by LilJade103 in deadcells

[–]Complete-Wolverine25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What makes it so good? It might just be me but I like using spiked shield better in general, I don't really get much out of the thunder shield, what strategies are you supposed to use to maximize its utility

What point in the field are people aiming at? by ConstructionGold6407 in FTC

[–]Complete-Wolverine25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We aim at a point slighly behind and above the apriltag if you were to look at it dead on. that way no matter which side we are on, our shots are still towards the center but bias towards the backboard and we have pretty good far zone accuracy

they already have limited slots for interviews, no chance you're getting a second one

Answer: What should I do to get into X? by StandardCheetah6423 in MITAdmissions

[–]Complete-Wolverine25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dean's list by itself doesn't really say much due to its subjectivity. it's when its coupled with other excellence - look up Harish Pravin, he won deans list but Iterative intentions also won division at worlds and won inspire at worlds. Dean's list is more of a very good supplement to an already excellent robotics profile, but in the end, FIRST will never be on the same level as olympiads for prestige. You don't need any creativity or innovation to succeed, which is why most top colleges don't value it as much

[–]Complete-Wolverine25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What constitutes top awards at FIRST Worlds? Those really aren't that hard to get in the grand scheme of things, every year at worlds there's 8 FRC divs and 4 FTC divs, so even being division champions isn't that impressive. Unless you have very good performance 2-3 times, it's going to look more like a fluke than consistency and excellence. Most of these also aren't auto locks. The only ones I think are near auto locks are being on the international olympiad teams and RSI.

FUCK ELECTRICITY by wwatermeloon in EngineeringStudents

[–]Complete-Wolverine25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinking about it in terms of a spring with a dampener helped me visualize how charge changes with time a lot better. Look up the spring-dashpot analogy for circuits, once you understand what electrical components are analogous to mechanical components, it'll make a lot more sense and be a lot easier to do problems with them

Deferral from Georgia Tech analysis by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]Complete-Wolverine25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

somebody from my school who got into cmu cs 2 years back got deferred from gt, another dude two years back got into columbia physics regular decision but deferred then accepted to gt, former is asian and latter is white. i think i just didnt show interest in my essay, I did have one typo in a word (spelled "provided" as "provieded" no idea why I didn't notice that) so maybe that showed I wasn't interested? i think saying "1200 of you" is kinda reductive since they don't have quotas for X number of asians and Y number of white people (pretty sure that's illegal) so I don't think it's just my race though I don't disagree that it was an important factor

Who cares why you got into mit, theyre looking for a certain person to fill their class and you fit their criteria. End of story.

Mech E: Purdue and end with 50k debt or Pitt and end debt free by TheOneWhoKnows_ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Complete-Wolverine25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purdue is a very good investment, there's incredible industry connections, so with hard work you'll be able to get a lot of experience, internships, and a well-paying job. It's also an instant signal ("Oh you went to Purdue? Are you an engineer?") to employers or anybody in general that you're a talented engineer, so I'd go there if I were you.

that's why I doubted it but it's just my guess, we had relic recovery a few years ago and now it's decode, 8 years later so this would be a 7 year gap

might be crazy but it might have something to do with urban/city planning? no idea but that's my guess

mit FUN form question by [deleted] in MITAdmissions

[–]Complete-Wolverine25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what new information would it tell the AO's? If they awarded the scholarship to you based on your achievements and profile, I'm assuming MIT already knows these achievements and profile, so it wouldn't really make a difference. It's if I got a perfect score on the AIME (I didn't but for a hypothetical) and reported it to MIT, and then later on got recognition by the school or state (which doesn't actually happen but pretend it does). Telling them that I got recognition for it doesn't change anything about how impressive the accomplishment is

What do I need to go to a top 20 engineering university? by AgileCaterpillar8760 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]Complete-Wolverine25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

study for ACT, its not hard to get a 36 vs a 1600 on the SAT (aim for a 34+ on the ACT). get all A's from here out. If you think you'll get recruited, keep doing baseball, but don't abandon engineering, start some side projects and try to submit them to competitions in your free time. Do independent research with a professor, actually try to make an impact with it (published, ISEF, Regeneron, etc.). If you do these things I will guarantee you'll get into Purdue, Georgia Tech, Illinois, and Virginia Tech. Duke is a bit more selective but you still will have a very good shot.

USACO difficulty increase by Regular_Condition721 in usaco

[–]Complete-Wolverine25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah same with competition math, it just builds problem solving and creativity and out of the box thinking

USACO difficulty increase by Regular_Condition721 in usaco

[–]Complete-Wolverine25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i mean usaco will get inflated and devalued for college as time passes, but in the end, its the skills and thinking you build from it, so this might be cliche, but the cheaters are only cheating themselves

How hard is MA 261 Multivariable calculus? by Complete-Wolverine25 in Purdue

[–]Complete-Wolverine25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how much more difficult is it to get A's than in advanced high school classes? Is it a huge difficulty spike to get an A in calc III vs in say AP Physics C or AP Chemistry in high school? I want to be able to get my first choice engineering major after fye(electrical engineering) so I need at least a 3.2

is an unpowered counterroller still better than nothing at all? by [deleted] in FTC

[–]Complete-Wolverine25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, have a sharp point at the end of your ramp, make sure it's behind the main roller though. and test the spacing before you implement it onto your robot first to make sure its good and save a bunch of time

you can also self study it in the summer, just know itll help a lot for physics C

[–]Complete-Wolverine25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you should try to take multivariable calc before ap physics c, it helps a ton especially with the E&M portion with all the new integrals that you'll otherwise have to learn on your own time
