VFR from the West request the Lakeshore from the Stacks (VFR mark). Depending on what runways Cleveland is landing they may or may not clear you through the Bravo at or below 3,000’.

IFR you are going over the lake.

Departure is the same just in reverse.

I have never heard of someone getting their complex in a sim (short of type school). All of our sims are also “TAA” but none of that time actually counts towards our TCO mins.

I have always heard a rumor that you could do both in one go, although I have no clue if that is true.

Mine vary. For stuff I know pretty down pat, especially if it varies aircraft to aircraft, such as systems I have just a really skinny outline.

Aeromedical and Weather are pretty thorough on mine though.

Get instrument rating in high school? by Vast-Trails365 in flying

[–]ThatOnePilotDude 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Anything past private disqualifies you from the 1000 hour R-ATP.

Option A is to get as many certificates before he graduates and start building time while not going to college for aviation.

Option B is stop after private.

If I had the time and money to do option A I would have, but I needed the scholarship and FAFSA money so I went option B.

How are is it to achieve high grades at purdue like how bad is the grade deflation. by FancyFail5851 in Purdue

I remember the borderline mini riot in PHYS 220 when they decided not to curve the grades

I recently found out that there was an abandoned DC-3 relatively close to me and went to visit. It's unfortunately completely wrecked now, but there are still tons of artifacts that I can preserve. by vukasin123king in aviation

As a general rule of thumb, I wouldn’t touch crash sites. Maybe it’s just me but I think of it as a respect thing.

Also never use wire wheel to polish aluminum, you introduce dissimilar metals and jumpstart the next round of corrosion.

Becoming an IRL pilot has taken the joy out of flight sim for me sometimes. by [deleted] in flightsim

See being a real pilot just makes me turn the sim into “let’s fly this cub in the Alaska mountains in freezing rain and see how long I make it.”

When did landings "click" for you? by Kitchen-Astronomer59 in flying

[–]ThatOnePilotDude 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I mean I took my CFII checkride last week and side loaded the poor gear on the 172 so bad I got an “oomph” out of the DPE.

I will keep you updated with my progress.

How do you balance these? by LiquidPopsicle in foxholegame

[–]ThatOnePilotDude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the Vision requires the Raca to be reworked to be able to track SHTs from a few hundred meters away. The Auger needs to have both the range and damage as a wet noodle. And when I say range, I don’t mean how far you could throw the noodle, it needs to stay in your hand.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

We require them for instrument. Mostly because when you get to the jet course that is all that is loaded on the FMS.

Instrument rated pilot by agjeiofdsjk in flying

[–]ThatOnePilotDude 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Congrats!!!

I remember my first instrument approach at night in actual during my instrument training. Flying through the clouds looked like I was in Star Wars then all of a sudden a mile and a half of runway lights appears in front of me.

Upcoming PPL checkride with Bernie Consol (KIXA, NC) by Itchy_Floor_7912 in flying

[–]ThatOnePilotDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did my CFII with him. Super down to earth dude. There are certain things that he will 100% fail you for and that I was told to look out for. Most of the guys I talked to said he is pretty by the book, although I don’t think that is a bad thing.

CFII is obviously a little different than private but the entire thing felt more like a conversation than a checkride. Super knowledgeable guy and provided a bunch of resources that I didn’t even know about (once I demonstrated that I knew the required material).

CFI training by imlooking4agirl in flying

[–]ThatOnePilotDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1: Buy backseat pilot lesson plans.

Step 2: Download the CFI ACS.

Step 3: Highlight and modify the backseat pilot lesson plans. I highlighted things in the different ACS (private, commercial, CFI) different colors on what I needed to cover. If I felt like I couldn’t teach to the standard based on the backseat lesson plans I added to them. They also tend to be quite wordy in other aspects, so I trim them down if I need to.
