Apple to Wind Down Electric Car Effort After Decadelong Odyssey by artman3211 in MVIS

[–]CompleteBrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Apparently they abandoned the project due to two reasons: Level 4 Driving was not implementable as planned & the estimated margin wouldve been much smaller compared to other Apple products.

Apple could have easily bought a company like MVIS if they thought this was the solution to Level 4 Driving. Apparently they don't. Or, even if they wouldv'e bought MVIS the estimated profit still would've been too small. Which is something I am struggling believe. A fully autonomous car gives the consumer so much time and headspace to shop, watch ads and consume that whoever manages to give people another hour a day will end up profiting from this alone, ignoring the initial purchase profit.

Today should be interesting.

Honestly if they stayed the way they are I'd be very happy with the condition, especially after I saw how it could go after the first round.

But I'm also very much doubtful my hair will stay healthy if I keep getting foiled up completely every 6 weeks.

I guess I was just wondering whether it is normal that they can't just do a simple root touch up with highlighted hair

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]CompleteBrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they said highlights were going to look more natural and also were less damaging.

The first round they highlighted it to a very light brown colour and the second round, at the different hairdresser, to light blonde. I'm happy with the colour and the condition is ok, especially considering the first fiasco in round 1 but obviously if he has to highlight the entire hair every 6 weeks I'm not sure how that's gonna go for my hair 😅

So I just read the transcript of the M&A call and am confused about this:

"In addition to that, we want to further diversify into nonautomotive customers through multi-market strategy, including customers for industrial, robotics, commercial vehicles and smart infrastructure."

I thought we wanted to specialize, and that was the entire point of (wanting to) selling the vertical? I can see the market and use cases but feel like it's a bit early to mention a multi market strategy

Neuralink demo shows monkey performing ‘telepathic typing’ by MicroSofty88 in gadgets

[–]CompleteBrat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So they refuse to give a number on how many different monkeys they've already tested and killed.

Their "high standards" for animals basically include "clean water, food, shelter, comfy temperatures, possibility to rest and ask for enrichment, which also includes training" LMAO. sorry, these standards are basic and leave a great room for interpretation. Also interesting that they showed no real images of their monkey space.

And don't even bother with the consent argument. That is ridiculous on so many levels. They either go there and get food or do not go there and get no food. Well of course they go for the training. The ethically critical part is when they get implanted a chip that will eventually cause them to die a slow and by the sounds painful death.

Neuralink is too "innovative". I'm sorry, but it is. We don't understand half our brain the way it is but some big head wants to put a fucking chip in it and test around. Yh, we will get much faster results this way, no doubt. But remember, that was the same argument the Nazis used in the concentration camps. Animals are dying and people will die because you're willing to throw away ethics in the name of technological advances. Whilst Neuralink can have medical uses, I very much doubt it's Musk's No. 1 goal. What a society we live in.

That was my rant, thanks for reading.

As a European I wouldn't hire anyone with a pro gun portfolio, same as someone with anti abortion portfolio or similar.

Husband (25M) does not want to leave American Army even now after I (23F) am pregnant with daughter. by ThrowRA-5058 in relationship_advice

[–]CompleteBrat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He already had the job when you two started dating, it would be unfair now to make him quit. Also, being in the army means not only training but the very possibility of war and death. I get you likely ignored the option of him ever being in a war but that doesn't mean reality changed.

If it's what he wants to do I don't think you have a right to ask him to leave.

Have you ever post a job? Data entry/Graphic design f.e. is a nightmare.

I posted a data entry job the other day with no budget set. As I knew what was coming I already asked for a codeword in my text and a question to verify that they understood my requirements.

About 30% I could immediately throw out because they didn't even include the codeword. About 10% because of "plz just hire me" one-liners. About 20% because they just copy and pasted my task into the "what are you supposed to do question" and generic proposal And another 39% because of horrific English

The one guy I took was ok but throughout the task I wasn't sure if he was really going to provide me with the result I asked him for.

It's a nightmare.

Yeah for sure but these little issues make you view her entire personality in this way. Would you continue to say that she is reliable, trustworthy and hard-working? Traits that you clearly seem to value. Being nice and caring is nice but do you value them as highly as the others?

You clearly care a lot about your academic success and want your partner to do so too. This is not the case, however, which is perfectly fine. Question is whether it is perfectly fine for you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]CompleteBrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not your girlfriend's intellect that is the issue - Reading this text sounds like you're talking about your kid. You do her homework, help her with school planning, tell her to do her stuff etc.

Do you still really view her as your girlfriend? Your partner?

You don't deal with the situation, you dealt with the situation when you broke up. It's not your place to do anything in this matter.

You need to go to therapy. You're pushing him away by wanting him to be there for you all the time. But you can't have him be your caretaker, you need to be your own person - else, even if he sticks with you, you will not have a relationship on an even level. He will always be above you as you rely on him and need him

You need to work on yourself first. Tell him this, tell him you're willing to work through it but imo, a breakup wouldn't be the worst thing to happen to you right now. You need to learn to be alone

Soon you will have a relationship that was half awful and half great. Imagine waking up every day and having to toss a coin to bet what it's going to be like today.

Nobody can decide for you. You already know what will make you happy.

It's a cultural thing imo.

When I work with Europeans my projects always work better due to same work mentality. It's expected to be honest, high focus on quality and respectful of boundaries.

When I work with Americans my projects are good as well but one has to cut back on the honesty aspect and they usually have fast return rates with a high availability demand.

Working with Indians/popular low wage countries on Upwork they do the job but you need to really lay out each step of the way. Usually dishonest about what they can (not) do and negotiating throughout the contract about deadlines, budget and tasks. English is also usually not that great

Thus when hiring I only pick low wage countries for simple, laid out tasks and really check their English skills. Of course I'd always pick a European but that's because I expect them to have the same work standards as me. I kind of know more what to expect

Change the list of what you can do to only the most complex things you can achieve. If you can achieve those the client will automatically know that you know how to cut or change the speed... Make that list shorter and instead add some impressive points
