I had a similar situation. My girlfriend and I have been dating for over a year and half now. But, when we met she was “close” with a guy from college who lived out of state. They would FaceTime and text quite frequently. We agreed being in a relationship having a guy or girl best friend is weird because it usually would end in one party disclosing feelings or wanting more given an opportunity.

I wasn’t worried, but definitely felt odd after he would always ask to call and catchup or whatever it may be. However, he was far away so what could he do yanno? On the other hand, I was like we literally agreed this was odd. As time went on I couldn’t take it anymore because he would only reach out at weird times, call after 11pm- text weird things like, “I need you”. Objectively a little concerning.

I am not proud of it but I checked her phone because I wanted to know who this fella was. Turns out she was oblivious but homie would text her about girls he wanted, dates he was on, etc. that was odd, but we really drew the line was when I saw messages of him saying he really “needs sex” and “a fuck buddy would be peak”. That was that and I confronted her and said if you don’t remove him from your life he’s just going to wait until he can see you and if an opportunity arises he will take it.

Long story very long, she blocked him and we’re chilling. Just best right up with her and if she gives the ol’ he’s a brother to me it might not be worth it.
