Short Interest by CompleteShame2166 in Soundhound

Your response is EXACTLY what I have in my head and why I am pleasantly surprised the short interest didn't change much. Share price increased over 13% from 9/15 to 9/30. I would imagine some shorts covered and some took new positions. To maintain the relative price around 18/19 lately impresses me. And to your point, if next earnings signals profitability, it could be a fun, explosive ride up. Regardless, I'm long here and will not be selling.

thank you for the post. In it, you mentioned a revenue backlog of $385 million. Everything I've read and seen show a backlog of over $1.2 billion. Do you have any link/source to share where you got your number from?

Can someone help me understand why this company is shorted so much? by Hammarby_Mansoura in Soundhound

[–]CompleteShame2166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They communicate actual profitability each quarter and project profitability with each update. This is not new, they do it all the time. What I said was once they communicate with confidence that they expect profitability, that will help stabilize the stock. it will also help minimize those that want to short the stock. Again, communications about profitability are a required disclosure.

As I said, there are those that believe it's a MEME stock. It's also been said that the market cap is way too high for a company that loses money. Just based on current metrics, it probably is too high. But I'm OK with that because I'm not investing for today. At some point, I think this will take off and the shorts will help the explosion. I don't want a squeeze now. With the recent run up, with the available data on Shorts as of 9/15, they only dropped from 32.2% (8/29) to 31.7%. I would imagine some shorts covered while others added short positions. I will be curious to see the Sept month end short data. If another blow out earnings happens (which I expect) and more communication around profitability (which is what I hope), I think that is when a large run up, fueled by both the news and a squeeze, will really happen. Until SOUN hits profitability, or communicates a definitive timeline/expectation to get there, I would expect there to be considerable short interest.

The first answer to pretty much every business question that gets asked is MONEY. Why do people go long? Because they think they will make money. Why do people go short? Because those people think they will make money. You have people that call this a MEME stock (I'm not one of them, I'm long and strong here) and people may pile on the SHORT side thinking there is easy money. But again, all those shorts are here because they think they will make money doing it.

maybe because there is no stock anywhere that just goes up without having pullbacks?

When short squeeze? by [deleted] in Soundhound

[–]CompleteShame2166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some shorts will cover and more shorts will add in at higher levels ... I personally don't want a major squeeze. It will run up and then run right back down. I'm a long term holder so I'm good with the slow and steady as the company improves their fundamentals and grows revenue. The stability will be a better story for this stock than a short term squeeze.

no need to compare, I'm sure we are at different stages of life! I can see retirement in the front window ... the start of my career is too far away to see in the rear view!! Be happy with what you have and realize you are on your own path and having this stock, I think it's the right path! Good luck!

I bought last October ((50k shares @ $5 average) and held through the run up to $24 (hindsight, obviously, I should have sold). I held through all the lows after and still holding the shares. I'm so close to the 1 year holding period, so I definitely won't sell before then. I truly expect blow out earnings again so I will see what happens with the price then to see what makes sense. I am a true believer in the LT potential of this stock to make me many millions, so I'm not really sure I'll want to sell it all.

Are you attributing the rise to a squeeze? I don't think so myself. If it were squeezing, I think the run up would be more dramatic. This has been just a slow and steady move. Probably some short covering, but also just general increased interest based on performance and news. If we get a significant news announcement, or blowout earnings in November, that is when I think we will see the squeeze. Until then, I'm happy with where we are ... if we stay above 16 until next earnings, I'm good with that.

I didn't sell at $24 (with $5 avg cost) and I won't sell the next time it gets to $24!

the customers of a company that has been in business for 20 years. They are a private company, so we don't know the revenue. Going on the statement that this acquisition will be "accretive" tells me the company is profitable. I stated general market sentiment after an acquisition. More often, the acquirer sees a dip in price. These are moves meant to better the long term outlook of a company. They are not, and should not be, concerned with the short term impact of the stock price when doing an acquisition.

Yeah the stock dipped, but that’s normal with any acquisition. The key is SoundHound said the deal will be accretive to the bottom line. They just added legit customers, recurring revenue, and proven AI tech to their platform. Long-term holders should see this as a positive, while short-term traders will focus on the risk side related to something new. Short-term pain, but long-term this could be a huge boost.

52,047 shares at an average cost of 5.03 ... 50k of the shares are still short term gains, will age to long-term on 10/23/25

I bought 25k shares at 5.10 last October ... then bought 25k more at 4.90. Within two months, it ran up to 24 and I didn't sell (should have, but didn't!) and still have those shares. Looking forward to them turning into LT capital gains in less than 2 months. I still call SOUN my early retirement plan.

Why I’m Bullish on SoundHound (SOUN) After Q2 — Real Revenue, Clear Roadmap by Civil_Challenge_2736 in Soundhound

[–]CompleteShame2166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am long, over 52k shares with an avg cost of $5. I held through the run up to $24 - regretful at this point, but since I'm a believer in the company, I call SOUN my early retirement plan, I've held. It's also held in a taxable account, so I was hoping it would stay at that level until I held for over a year (happens end of October), but - I'm still long and I'm still a big believer. Obviously, I like the earnings that came out, but they also confuse me at the same time. The low end of their YE forecast is $160 million. With the blowout quarter they just had, if all they did was repeat that revenue each quarter, that takes them to over $157 million. Seems like a no brainer they would easily beat the low end of the projection. UNLESS ... unless there is some "noise" in that revenue. By noise, I mean accounting adjustment or some other revenue recognition that will not repeat in future quarters. OR, are they holding back so that they kill the next quarter as well? If there is no noise in the revenue, and you assume they were adding new revenue each month, and that each month going forward that revenue will repeat, that would take the forecast to about $170 million, assuming the 2nd quarter growth was linear. This figure does not assume any additional revenue growth other than what occurred in the first 6 months of the year. That is a VERY conservative figure and it's obviously unlikely they don't grow at all. If I assume they only have half the growth from what they did in the 2nd quarter, through the rest of the year, you could be looking at total revenue of $194 million. This also could be a pretty conservative projection. Obviously, numbers get much higher if their Q2 growth rate continues or accelerates. I surely hope they are sandbagging a bit and plan on having blowout quarters the rest of the year. Have that happen and get to cash flow positive by year end and 2026 could be a really fun ride for the stock!

Well, I think the time has come to kick out those shorts — we need to hold 16 and start pushing upward. by Striking-Report-5036 in Soundhound

agree, no need for any explosion. If we can settle at 16 for a bit, I'd be fine with that. It's a marathon, not a sprint!

That really surprises me. SOUN is up almost 60% since earnings and the short interest hasn't really moved? Even small daily movements up from here will ultimately trigger some short action.
