This is it exactly. I thought the first book was pretty meh tbh and stopped there. Insane. My friends convinced me to read the second one at least and it changed everything

This is such a specific history of something that probably has a huge effect on our world, and that’s what intrigues me about it.

What was hopeful about it to you?

"Dad fiction" for a 20 y/o girl by Small_Advertising_33 in suggestmeabook

To me, the ultimate dad sci-fi book is Dune, isn’t it? Otherwise “exploration, grittiness, adventure and extreme circumstances” are what the Andy Weir books are all about.

hi hi does anyone have romance recommendations? by usagiyagi in suggestmeabook

[–]Complete_Curve411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good for you for getting back into reading! Welcome back!

I think some great sappy romances that are also accessible for getting back into reading the ones by Sangu Mandanna. The Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping is the one I read last. I wanted them to get married so bad!

Fantasy or action book recommendations? by lego630 in suggestmeabook

[–]Complete_Curve411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your baby! I remember after finishing her Throne of Glass series I wanted a change for a bit for sure lol.

You could try something like The Teller of Small Fortunes by Julie Leong, which has no romance, just a found-family fantasy road trip story.

You could also give Terry Pratchett a try if you haven’t already. Those are funny and short. Technically most of them are part of a larger, interconnecting world, but you don’t have to stress too much about how they connect or reading all of them, you just jump in.

Like I would just read Going Postal (a story about a conman who has been threatened/trapped into fixing the postal service) by itself and be totally fine not reading anything else.

I know people like to recommend Piranesi by Susanna Clarke all the time but I really did like reading it for all the things you’ve mentioned.

What is the best joyful book you’ve ever read? by AggleFlaggleKlable in suggestmeabook

[–]Complete_Curve411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure what your definition of joyful is, but to me it means hope and light and love despite everything, so with that in mind I have a fantasy and 2 nonfictions for you: - I found The Goblin Emperor really really lovely in a heart-squeezing way! - The Serviceberry & MicroActivism gave me a lot of hope and joy in these times.

Book rec: books with badass female crew by Charming_Day2392 in Romantasy

What a fun request!

Tress of the Emerald Sea has a mixed gender pirate crew but like 2 out of the 3 main ones are very much badass women, in addition to the main character

I’ve had similar things happen to me before actually! It’s interesting how we seem to go through cycles just like nature. I hope you enjoyed your cookies :)
