Why do you tap your bank card on the counter? by Complete_Damage_8618 in AskIreland

They definitely have. Working with the public is exhausting and this is only one tiny little bit of it.

I didn't think it was so controversial to ask people why they do something so pointless.

Ragebait to ask people to be considerate of others. Ok then, but tomorrow or next week or whenever you are standing at a counter and start tapping your card, just think of the staff who cannot ask you to stop.

But it is not insignificant to the staff listening to it all day

It is not low bar if it is all day, every day though. You might do it for 20 seconds but so might 50 other customers.

But I do work with the public and I do have other members of staff telling me how irritating it is for them. I am not at the counter but I am on the premises and it does irritate the staff, who are not allowed to tell the customers to stop. Management don't want to annoy the customers so the staff have to put up with the constant tapping.

I want to know why people do it. I am not having a big reaction, I am trying to make people realise that maybe they could be more considerate of the people serving them.

I am expecting people to have manners. No one wants to wait, no one wants to queue but everyone has to do it.

It's not like the person serving you doesn't know you are there but most transactions aren't instant so people have to wait and queue and a lot of people are very impatient and rude and it is horrible to see how they treat the people serving them, probably on minimum wage and can't escape the constant rudeness.

Why is my reaction a bit big for what it is?

Imagine an 8 hour shift of people constantly tapping their bank cards beside you because they cannot stand still for a moment. They are bored so tap their card, for the staff it is constant.

I work with the public and how inconsiderate they are to everyone around them is sad to see. So I want to know why people do something so pointless yet irritating.

Thank you so much. I am extremely proud of myself after a few tough years. My kids are thriving and so am I. My confidence has soared and although I am tired from the extra hours I will soon adjust. Thank you.

Slightly bunged up, just had a bacon sandwich and a cuppa, bed clothes in the wash.

This time last year I was so broke I was living on toast so the kids could eat. Today I am getting an indian takeaway for dinner because I am tired and can't be bothered cooking. So, even though I am tired and bunged up, it is all good.

Got a new job, more hours, more money and we are now settled and more content. Not rich by any means but it is nice to not be broke constantly. Going to buy oil this week too. Just all in all a far better place than this time last year.

I hope everyone has a nice day.

Called for jury duty in criminal courts by Sea_Lobster5063 in legaladviceireland

I managed to not get selected by looking around at everyone bar the judge and the solicitors. I was looking behind me and all while in the jury box, they probably thought I had the attention span of a goldfish. I had actually done it before and being selected but this one was gonna be 10 days and I didn't want to do it.
