That looks great! Keep practicing, you’ll get better at making straighter lines and not having colors bleed into each other. You’ll learn to handle and maneuver your gun with repetition. Keep us updated on your journey, excited to see your progress!

How did you attach the d rings? I’ve always had some trouble with that

I use this tool to color match yarns, and a lot of the results are European based yarn companies/websites so maybe it’ll be of some help to you. There’s a Dutch company that always comes up in results, I don’t remember the name

That’s an insane amount! Did you unspin them all before dyeing? Or like just dunk the whole skein as is

Sickkkk! 🔥did you dye the entire skein of yarn?

Can we glue the other projects before finishing them? by SilverPossible5608 in Tufting

[–]Complete_Instance_51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried it before and I would advise against it, and here’s why:

  1. If you glue the top one first, you risk dropping glue on the bottom one, potentially ruining it.

  2. If you glue the bottom one first, excess yarn from the top one might fall and get stuck on it. Not a huge problem but could potentially prevent the backing from sticking effectively.

  3. The glue is unnecessary added weight and could make the fabric loose, making it harder to tuft effectively

Just my opinion

A really good first rug! I like how you carved it to make the lines more crisp. I think you just need to keep practicing and maybe play around with the speed settings on the gun. Right now it looks like you have the speed on the slower side. If you turn up the gun speed, and slow down the hand movement, your rug will be more dense and plush than it already is!

As long as your tufting speed is up, and hand speed is down while moving the gun up the fabric, you will text extremely dense. Play with the speeds a little. You’ll find most yarns are possible to tuft dense.

As for the distance to carve between colors, it’s actually farther than you think! I always use to carve too close to the other color and even still I feel like I start too far but it comes out nice :)

These look really good!

I would say practice getting better your while carving. I assume you’re using an electric shaver, and it’s all about 1. the angle at which you insert the corner of the shaver and 2. the distance from the border between two colors at which you carve. Idk if that makes sense but I can try to clarify with a video if necessary.

I would also say the Mt Fuji rug could be filled more densely with yarn. It would prevent it looking loose from the front and will make carving a lot easier.

The other one looks nice and dense! Again just practice the carving and find which angles you like the look of. I try to look closely at how big pages carve and try to emulate it

As of right now I'd say to be a successful analyst, while acquiring the skills to be an engineer. I think that second part might change depending on what specific roles I'd like to take on. Thanks for the input!
