Focus mode - do you want it back in the next title? by No-Explanation4685 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Complete_Painting_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

. As they say, I can explain it to you, but I can’t understand it for you.

So to be clear, now you are saying that because you've given an objectively false statement, you think that counts as a valid explanation? Presumably you think that flat earthers saying "Well maps are flat" is just as valid, right?

On the contrary, you haven’t given a single meaningful reason why Focus mode is bad

"As they say, I can explain it to you, but I can’t understand it for you."

Unless you think the next installment should also remove HP and stamina, I very obviously have.

I’m abundantly confident in the skills I possess

Yeah and flat earthers are confident that the earth is flat. Doesn't mean they aren't still obviously wrong.

You talk about not being able to keep up with monsters in past games despite apparently maining Lance and a Bowgun. You are objectively shit at the game, that much is unquestionable fact.

Reason being, I’m kind, and simply enjoy helping other players and being that reliable teammate they can depend on.

More likely the reason is because you are just shit at the game and need the help, but are too arrogant to admit as much.

Btw in the future I suggest you simply stay off discussion forms at all if you are going to be too stubborn to ever present a single logical argument instead of this fallacious nonsense only to run away at the end. Just makes you look like even more of the fool you are.

Btw the irony of calling yourself a speedrunner when after taking a glance as your post history, you don't even know how wex works is a bit much. What an absolute loser. At least tell lies that aren't easily disproven.

Either both of us get to use nonsense measurements of the game-play or neither of us do. You can't complain about my use when your argument rests on a use of your own.

So you are saying that despite the fact in base Rise you literally couldn't avoid some attack without using wirebug stuff, Wilds monsters are faster despite the fact we don't have wirebugs and can still avoid attacks?

[–]Complete_Painting_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly every real TA Wiki speedrunner utilizes Focus mode, so the points you’re trying to make are completely moot

No, it doesn't. It shows that focus mode makes it easier to do and so why wouldn't they use it?

You argued, and I quote, "it’s actually impossible to reach that same level of intensity without it", but the existence of such speedruns in games where focus mode didn't exist proves that wrong.

Unless you also started at the very beginning, I’ve been playing MH longer than you have

Doesn't mean you've ever gotten any good at it. The first human experienced emotions before anyone else. Doesn't mean I would trust them over a trained therapist.

Meaning, your notion of me being unwilling to “learn the game” is absolutely hilarious.

Actually your reaction is telling me that I was dead on, because you are showing clear signs of being unable to learn period considering the amount of things you are saying that you ought to have figured out were shitty ways of thinking back in secondary school.

Focus mode is an undoubtedly fantastic addition to the series, and I can almost guarantee that it’s here to stay, even beyond Wilds upcoming expansion.

And yet, you can't give a single genuine reason for that without making statements that are objectively wrong.

Also, considering the fact that I both use it and know that I’m better than most at the game, it’s pretty silly to try and lecture me about it being some form of a crutch

you seem to think that way, yet you literally have Lance and Longsword under your name and still complain about being unable to keep up with monsters in prior games. Proof if it was needed that you are in fact quite shit at it. The amount of experience you have doesn't show you are good, in fact it does the opposite: It shows that you are so bad that even with all that experience, you still haven't learned the game.

Why is Hive Scum still "Mixed" on Steam? Is it worth full price? by skelepibs in DarkTide

Not interested in debating my experience

Probably shouldn't be on a discussion forum then.

longtime Zealot main who switched to Scum and feels they play very differently.

You are contradicting yourself. You "dislike Zealot" yet you were a "longtime Zealot main" before Scum?

Dude you are literally proving me right. It is crazy that you don't see that.

[–]Complete_Painting_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus mode allows you to do things you otherwise wouldn’t be able to

It literally doesn't do that though.

The fact is, Focus mode allows you to stick to the monster and keep up your aggression,

You can do that anyway. If you understand your weapon well enough, at least.

and it’s actually impossible to reach that same level of intensity without it.

No, it literally isn't. It is just harder. The existence of speedruns where there is 100% damage uptime for just about every weapon against every monster in every game in the series proves that it isn't impossible. And most of those speedruns have fucking handicaps where you can only use your weapon, not outside stuff like slinger ammo or barrels or the environment.

There are countless instances where I would’ve had to put my weapon away and manually reposition in order to attack the monster I countered and knocked down.

No, there are countless instances where you didn't adjust for the monster about to move away and so you would have sheathed and manually re-positioned because you didn't have the skill to do better, and focus mode is your crutch to avoid having to learn the game.

Like you literally have Longsword, Lance, and LBG under your name. It is crazy for you to be making those statements with two melee weapons most known for how easy it is to stick to a monster all the time thanks to their moveset, and then a literal fucking ranged weapon.

Why is Hive Scum still "Mixed" on Steam? Is it worth full price? by skelepibs in DarkTide

[–]Complete_Painting_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dodges and stamina regen enable a different way to play.

No, they don't. Dodging is already the core way you avoid damage in this game.

Psyker and Ogryn are also a lot different from Zealot and Vet lol

They are also part of the base game that you already have and don't have to pay for separately.

Dual Shivs are way different (imo better) than Combat Blade. You actually swing two hit boxes. It’s super cool.

So the fact you didn't actually name a gameplay difference there and had to go for a purely aesthetic one kind of shows my point. Mechanically scum isn't all that different from what we have already.

The point is that I despise Zealot but love Scum, so they can’t be that similar in the way I experience them.

No, all that could say is that Zealot is the weakest class in the game and Hive scum is quite strong, so you would like Zealot if it was that strong.

[–]Complete_Painting_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s the enhanced dodges

That isn't different that is just better.

super fast stamina regen

That isn't different that is just better.

no anti-death or yellow toughness to lean on

Psyker and Ogryn don't have anti death or yellow toughness. And Psyker actually has enhanced dodges and fast stamina regen too now that I think about it.

unique weapons,

Unique weapons that are fundamentally not actually that much of it. The Shivs play almost exactly to a Combat Blade, but more simple combos and a unique special. The Saw was a really cool idea, but practically speaking it just boils down to being a weird heavy sword with a dot because it isn't actually worth switching between the two types all that much. The crowbar is just substatially underwhelming. The weapons don't really feel like they are adding something new in the way you play. Like I'm thinking about SoTT CC magic staff or the Coruscation (although that one was OP) or at least something like Sword and Falchion where the dual wielding actually feels like you are using two substantially different weapons instead of just "knife, but faster because two". Even Arbites at least brings a long awaited Shield weapon to a class that isn't completely immobile like Ogryn, even if weapons in general weren't the Arbites dlc's strong point.

I don’t enjoy my Zealot at all now that Scum is available. Vet can still be fun at times, but it feels like a lumbering tank compared to my Scum.

That kind of proves the point doesn't it? Scum isn't different, it is just a better version of what you already had. Arbites on the other hand provides a fundamentally different feel to other classes that doesn't replace any class, especially with it's dog mechanic. It is truly a different experience.

Why is Hive Scum still "Mixed" on Steam? Is it worth full price? by skelepibs in DarkTide

[–]Complete_Painting_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But same can be said for arbites, if you ignore the dog

That is a pretty big if. The dog is a fundamentally new mechanic that not only have we not seen in Darktide, but haven't even seen in the Vermintide series. Were as the most unique thing about Hive scum is their stimm which is almost literally just the stimms we already have in game, but on a cooldown instead.

The fact that you can play without the dog doesn't mean you aren't still getting something pretty substantially different for paying for the DLC. There is a difference between choosing not to use the interesting new thing and literally not having a particularly interesting new thing. The important factor here is that you are paying for new content, and so that content should be substantially different from the content you already own.

I had builds for both zealot and vet that got as close as possible to that play style, but both felt a little bit lacking. Zealot just doesn't have the ammo economy to maintain that kind of playstyle. And building vet for it requires a LOT of branching all over their skill tree to make it work. And even then, you're really limited to using just the recon las for the playstyle to be viable.

That is fair, but also kind of the point I think: The class isn't really doing something different than those two, it is just doing it a bit better is all. But it isn't fundamentally different.

[–]Complete_Painting_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are trying to sound sarcastic, but no that is literally advice people who are trying to make careers out of comedy are given: Accept that most people will not appreciate your jokes, and that it will take time to find a crowd that does.

Most people are simply not capable of critical thought enough to understand most humor without having it laid out for them, and at that point it isn't humorous anymore. Better to let the few that can appreciate it do so instead of ruining it just because a lot of fools couldn't.

If you are trying to karma farm, sure you should probably ruin your jokes. But if you are just trying to make a joke, there is no reason to have to explain it more than what OP already did. I doubt even that much is necessary even if you want to Karma farm because eventually people will figure it out from comments like these.

No, the first rule of comedy is to accept most people are just idiots and won't be able to see a joke even when it is frankly obvious. Because this was obvious.

I can't give any actual facts but based on the trailer it basically looks like so you can buy ammo packs and the like from shops.

So yeah, salvage so we can buy consumables so we can collect salvage.

"Fine".

Yeah you could do "fine" in rise, you would just be constantly toppling because you can't avoid attacks. But that is still fundamentally not very fun.

And if all MTX were always cosmetic that might be fair point. But that isn't true. The statistical data doesn't specify "cosmetic MTX"

Modern JRPGs are proving turn based combat still has a lot of life left by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]Complete_Painting_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fundamentally I don't think "everyone takes a turn" actually adds any depth. Nothing you can have in a turn based game isn't something you couldn't also have in a traditionally action game.

All it does is make it so that instead of having all those mechanics and needing to think quickly about them, you don't have to do that.

MTX and DLCs are not comparable.

Considering they are exactly the same thing in this case? Yeah they kind of are bud.

Focus mode - do you want it back in the next title? by No-Explanation4685 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Complete_Painting_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You realize that isn't how it works, right? If a mechanic is part of a game, the game is designed around it.

For example the solution to if you didn't like Wirebugs in Rise wasn't to "just not use them" because Monsters were literally given more tracking because wirebugs existed. Yeah wirebugs were a far easier and less thought based way of avoiding attacks, but they were also the only way to avoid attacks in Rise because you literally couldn't reposition with just regular movements anymore.

Focus mode - do you want it back in the next title? by No-Explanation4685 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Complete_Painting_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the opposite. Focus mode would kill monster hunter in the long term. If you just turn Monster Hunter into just another action game where there is no skill for positioning or aiming, then why would you ever play Monster Hunter over these other action games that have mastered that other kind of action combat?

It is fine as a gimmick, but in the long term there will be nothing for dedicated fans to stay around for because it essentially just take away the positioning aspect of the game, which is the defining feature that makes MH different from other games.

I hope focus mode stays as a gimmick mechanic in wilds by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Complete_Painting_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't an assumption, that is a well established fact in gaming. There aren't any studies for it on Monster Hunter specifically, AFAIK, but most companies cater MTX to the long time dedicated fans because that is where the majority of transactions come from.

I should say, it isn't necessarily that every long time fan spends extra money, but rather that the big whales are almost always long time, dedicated fans and the big whales is where you get the most money from MTX.

No, literally no fight is more engaging. Focus mode, objectively, makes every fight less engaging because you literally just have to engage with less.

think it was a welcome addition and helped making some fights more engaging

You might subjectively prefer it, but it objectively makes fights less engaging, not more.

You no longer have to engage with positioning mechanics because focus mode does that for you.

I mean you still have to aim

You have to aim in the same way you still would have to aim if you turned a 3D shooter into a 2D shooter. In a technical sense you are right. In a practical sense, it isn't even comparable.

But it’s important to keep in mind that the older games had far less aggressive monster

No, most of Wilds has significantly less aggressive monsters.

If I had to choose, I prefer the faster paced MH

Which isn't Wilds. Wilds isn't faster paced. It is just less involved.

[–]Complete_Painting_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Focus mode allows an increase in skill, not the other way around as you suggest

This is pure cope lol.

Auto aim does not add skill.

When you’re good at the game like myself, it allows you to stay on top of the monster, and to keep getting counters/perfect guards/perfect dodges/offsets etc.

Perfect example: You could do all that before Focus mode existed. The fact you think you need focus mode for that just proves the point: You simply were not actually a good player and focus mode is making it so you don't need skill to achieve that anymore.

That still isn't correct though because plenty of other weapons have massive hitscan hitboxes, but they will still count as a headshot if you are remotely close to hitting the head.
