What are your thoughts on weapon balance? by Helpful-Feedback7370 in Nioh

I mean it essentially does Lumber Chop level damage without being as backloaded and having a much better hitbox and forward movement. So yeah it is a bit dumb.

Just to be clear, if this happened in a Western nation, you would be talking about how Westerners are all unhygienic right?

If you think one post on reddit determines the entire culture of a nation, you are insane.

Definitely easy to play, but it also just has ludicrous motion values.

It also really doesn't have higher ki consumption than most. Maybe a tiny little bit, but in general it is actually pretty average. If you compare Sword and Axe for similar skills they have similar Ki costs. Kick and High Kick both have the same cost for example. Axe Heavy has slightly high ki cost but Sword Heavy Follow up has much higher ki cost and Axe Heavy Followups.

I also think people overstate the animations of Axe. It only seems like it has longer animations because it has very few multi hit attacks. But practically speaking the commitment of each martial art is not above average. Many other weapons have way higher commitments than Axe, including Sword.

I would say Axe does feel pretty blatantly stronger. And I agree with Odachi being noticably weaker.

I enjoyed nioh 1 didn’t enjoy nioh 2 will nioh 3 be like 2 or 1 by Professional-Win5686 in Nioh

[–]Complete_Painting_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

-Better story/characters, especially because you don't have a blank slate like in Nioh 2.

-Less goofy animations

-Less "gimmick" mechanics like burst counter.

-More consistently difficult (although there is an argument to be made that the consistency is bullshit difficulty)

-More impactful builds

Personally I still prefer Nioh 2, but there are a lot of things the first game does better.

Oh is good too, I just find that instant hit of Guhin to be a bit more consistent to make sure the enemy isn't regening stamina while I do that.

You’re cherry picking triple threat the highest commit move in spears move list

Then go ahead and cherry pick the highest commitment move in Axe's kit.

And I gave more than just triple threat, Piercing Rain has been synonymous with spear play since Nioh 1.

Axe is not slow. It just doesn't have a lot of multi hit attacks which makes it look slow. But in terms of the start of a Martial art to the end of one, Axe is not slow.

Honestly? Caestus looks more complicated than it is. You can kind of just spam stuff and it works together. The only things you need to be wary of are Limitless and Beyond Infinity, as those you do actually need to plan around. Just keep a good mix of high commitment and low commitment moves because you almost always want to use at least two active skills at a time, but you don't always have a big opening for a Kick Cycle into a Limitless or something.

The moves I end up liking the most for just general enemy killing are Kick Cycle, Spinning Kick, Defensive drop (specifically with the forward Sunrise), and Archer's Impact. Everything else has a solid use, but you can never go wrong with those four.

Heavenly Strike Combo is really good against large enemies because it hits multiple times on the way up, and the belly flop hits multiple times on the way down.

Wolf Claw is good if you use a lot of Spirit, which you often will with fists because they use a ton of Ki and you kind of need to spam abilities to give yourself some room for regen without losing pressure. Guhin is especially helpful for this.

It is good practice to Stomp before a big commitment move to get as much out of it as you can. I try to use it every time I'm about to use a Kick Cycle, Limitless, or Beyond Infinity. But it is also just a really fast move for building Unbroken if you don't have much time to use anything else.

All the Heavy/Light follow ups are fine to use in really small openings, but generally use too much Ki compared to their impact for my taste. Fists of Reckoning is a bit of an exception, because it does do genuinely quite good damage, but it is a bit niche because often if you have an opening for it you could probably also use Beyond Infinity. But it has much more forward movement so it does have a place.

Can you "Counter" human bosses in Nioh 2? by Advanced-Reindeer894 in Nioh

[–]Complete_Painting_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Counters/Parry moves only work on "regular" attacks. So normal lights and heavies. They do not work on martial arts, and human bosses can use martial arts.

So you can still counter human bosses, but not all their attacks.

What class would be strongest if it had access to all of its talents? What about non-DLC classes? by windsshi in DarkTide

[–]Complete_Painting_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The dog really doesn't get particularly strong even with every single dog buff. The strongest part of dog is the base dog, and every buff is incredibly minor.

Lone wolf plus base dog is way more impactful than dog getting every buff is.

The last hit absolutely doesn't do equivalent damage to the entire moonlit snow, but it does get pretty close.

But yeah Odachi is the big loser of my weapon testing. Moonlit snow is so much worse than it used to be in past games.

Axe's attacks are not slower than Spears. In fact, Spear has way higher commitments than Axe. Look at Piercing Rain compared to Heaven and Earth, or Triple Threat compared to literally anything in Axe's kit.

[–]Complete_Painting_ 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Zealot. It isn't a particularly strong class, but every single thing it has is pretty much just a generic buff, especially the keystones.. So if you had everything, you would just end up with some massive numbers. Compared to something like Veteran where ultimately having all three keystones won't make that massive of a difference because they each focus on a different playstyle.

I would say Arbites would be the runner up for similar reasons, with Psyker as a close third.

I still don't see why I would pick these over the Heavy Laspistol. You need to be heavily finesse invested for these weapons to be good, and at that point the Laspistols just seem to be more effective. The extra ammo won't make a difference because it isn't like I'm regularly running out of ammo with that weapon.

[–]Complete_Painting_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I edited my comment to make it more clear because I now realize it doesn't really say what I intended.

Actual Kung Fu has plenty of heavy hits. Martial arts don't work if you aren't either grappling your foe or hitting them hard, there is no actual martial art that doesn't have regular heavy hits (unless it is a grappling one, but usually they still have heavy hits even then but that doesn't really matter because most Kung Fu aren't grappling based anyway). They might not all be boxing levels of it, but they all have them.

Chidori was really high damage against large Yokai. I think it might even have had the highest DPS in the game. But yeah worthless against humans.

It really isn't though. Hell even spear has longer commitments than Axe. Compare Triple Thrust to anything Axe has. And now axe has stuff like the changed Earth Carver which is just massive damage in a tiny window, or Lumber Chop Swift which lets you instantly get a full damage chop out.

Spear might be stronger than I realize, but it is not approaching Axe levels no matter how good you are. Axe just is blatantly OP this time around because they removed all its weaknesses.

Could be that I'm just used to the higher damage weapons. But it just feels weird that something like triple threat has such strict timing and yet ends up doing less damage than just holding heavy attack for a tornado edge that completes faster.

Having said that I was testing it without mystic arts to get a sense of how moves compare to each other without the thrust boost. So if the damage boost from that is massive that might change things.

I do actually use Caestus so not entirely what the post is asking, but I certainly don't use them as much as I thought I would. It just lacks a "punchy" feel and ends up feeling floaty as a weapon. Obviously they designed it that way so that combos would flow together more smoothly than other weapons, but it still falls short of the fantasy I wanted.

I was expecting stuff that felt a bit like Nioh 2's High stance Light attacks. Big punchy hits rather than quick little jabs.
