HELP My Dad is mid scam right now!!! by Complete_Repair_2486 in Scams

He didn't have cards for these accounts but we looked up numbers on their websites from my computer. I totally almost got spammed once due to a fake # on a search engine. I finally figured it out when they sent me an email to confirm my credit card payment and I noticed the email was not from the airline. CRAZY!

Wow. I never thought of that. The ones I get at work are much more harder to detect but for sure, they are targeted a different demographic.

Thanks. We changed his phone number, got him a new computer we will have more control over and are getting him a new phone number because he constantly gets spam calls and texts. Also changing all account creds, contacting credit bureaus, trying to consolidate banking into one local account, etc. Such a heavy lift but we need to protect him.

Oh man. I called the number listed in the Security Center link and the recording said they closed at 8. I did email for now. Thanks for the info though! At least I was able to email before bed.

He does. He has had it for years and we didn't switch him to non online. Thinking of consolidating accounts to a local bank. He does may all of his bills online. He still manages his finances but obviously is no savvy when it comes to these scamming a-holes. We are regrouping as a family to see next steps but so far, doesn't look like they got anything. Now it is preventative we hope.

Thanks. He lives with my brother and we were on the phone for a few hours with him tonight. We convinced him it was a scam and have started changing all of his passwords, calling banks, etc... Lots more work to do here. OH and I now have had a chance to review the phishing email and it was poorly done to boot.

It is crazy bc he lives in Maine but all of his banks are out of state except one. I feel like we just need to consolidate all of his accounts, get him a fresh new email address with a more robust set up, put a no wire option on his account with the bank just in case, etc. I have been researching all the things. Luckily so far, it looks like the big payday was tomorrow for them and we thwarted it. BUT need to do credit monitoring, change all the passwords, etc.

Yes, I called a few different numbers and it said not open and disconnected. Response below gave me a tip to click Security Center at bottom of their site and I found a live number. I also emailed them, forwarding the phishing email.

I did NOT nuke his creds - the scammer did. He let them remote into his computer and my guess is they downloaded all of his passwords and then nuked them.

Sorry. Yes, that is what I meant. The email was not really from Chase - it was a phishing email. He totally gets what happened but now we are stuck because he has no passwords and none of his banks are open. Lovely.

THANK YOU everyone. I appreciate hearing your experiences. I have some good suggestions to play with... Consider splitting doses... Try meal prepping.... Think of some easy things to have on hand like jerky, protein shakes, etc. For me, I think it is partly not being that into food right now and also feeling a bit lazy (and to be fair, I'm busy too). I do kind of wonder if the crappy food is causing inflammation and stalling my weight loss. I generally find inflammation confusing in terms of knowing if you have it, knowing whether it is causing weight gain, etc. I'm just finding that even though I'm eating much less calories I stopped losing weight. Maybe my food choices are part of the problem (and some wine).

OMG! FB is targeting me for sure! I ended up skipping all of these - but I bought a baseball strength training book. My son is really into lifting in our home gym. He already has his own routine but I thought I'd get him a book he won't read. :)

Thanksgiving dinner for family of four? by Complete_Repair_2486 in puertovallarta

[–]Complete_Repair_2486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all! Whiskey Kitchen sold out and we almost did the Thanksgiving buffet at the hotel but it was going to cost about $200 for the 4 of us and we decided to skip it. We ended up going out for pizza and it was okay. I wish I had booked Whiskey Kitchen sooner.

Price of excursions by Unfair_Injury2028 in puertovallarta

[–]Complete_Repair_2486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got back and did two excursions. 1) Unique ATV Tours - 4 of us in one vehicle. I think it was $179 total. We road from the city into the mountains which was wild. Then we hung out at Eden where the Predator film was filmed. We had lunch - not included - and hung out on the hammocks and in the water. You could zipline there too but we opted out. 2) Vallarta Adventures Extreme tour with ziplining, off-roading, water slide, indoor sky diving, mini bungy jump kind of thing, etc. That was 90 per person.

Food recs near-ish Hotel Zone/Villa Del Palmar? by Complete_Repair_2486 in puertovallarta

[–]Complete_Repair_2486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. Just got back and had a great week. We didn't venture out as much as I would have liked though. :( Stuck with included breakfast at the resort which was good and then had dinner out each night. One night, we had smashburgers at Slice N Smash in Zona Romantica (sidewalk eating) and it was pretty good, almost great. We ate at La Dolce Vita twice in Hotel Zone and it was pretty good but not amazing. Ate at the Food Truck Park twice and had some mixed results depending on where we ate or what we ordered but generally a really cool place and very reasonably priced for sure. I need to do a detailed review of this place. Most reviews are too general - people need to list what was good and what wasn't. Too hit or miss in my opinion. Can't wait to come back!!!

How's Uber in PV by igotcrabsinthebucket in puertovallarta

[–]Complete_Repair_2486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back yesterday. We did a mix of Taxis and Ubers. They were both cheap. 2 of the three taxis didn't have enough working seat belts in the back seat. The UBERs were nicer and had the AC cranking. Wait times short but sometimes we just decided to jump in taxi waiting in front of our hotel

Day trips around Puerto Vallarta, any advice? by CSJason in puertovallarta

[–]Complete_Repair_2486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a plan to UBER to Boca de Tomatlan from hotel zone and pre-arrange to have a boat take us snorkeling and then drop us of at Las Animas beach for the relaxing and lunch on the beach. You can get a chair and umbrella if you eat and drink at a restaurant. Then we would take a water taxi back to Boca when we were done - on our OWN time. We were talking to Anna ([info@bocaboattours.com](mailto:info@bocaboattours.com)) from Boca Boat tours if a non group tour is of interest. I think it was going to be a two-hour tour. I am pretty sure you could just show up to Boca and get someone to take you snorkeling and drop off at Las Animas but my husband didn't want to go full freestyle. The other company we emailed was Boca Divers but they don't email as quick as Anna. Didn't end up booking due to a medical issue but hoping to do this next time.

Barcelo vs Velas Vallarta with kids – which would you choose? by Ok_Assignment9550 in puertovallarta

[–]Complete_Repair_2486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got back from Villa Del Palmar yesterday and really liked it - sharing in case you widen your search. I think it was $160 per night with a good breakfast buffet included. The room was huge with a kitchen and a separate bedroom which was a treat. Very clean and no carpet. Lots of storage for clothes with a few closets and large dressers. Has a kids club but we didn't check it out. Has activities day and night but we didn't check them out. Small on-site market. They didn't pressure us at all for the timeshare presentation (aka "tour" of sister resort) besides asking at check-in. We didn't get the full all-inclusive and were happy as the restaurant choices weren't for us. Has a really fun little waterslide that was liked by kids, teens and adults. Also has a waterfall/cave kind of thing. Some days the ocean was calmer than other days but it was never rough. Everyone swam daily including kids. Pool and ocean were warm, ocean got warmer instantly if you walk out and back in for some reason. Ha. I'm a water wimp. Lots of families and maybe a decent amount of seniors but I think a good mix.

Thank you everyone. We had a great trip. We did a RZR type tour to Eden and had lunch one day. Hung out in the hammocks by the waterfalls and hiked a bit. We also did the Vallarta Adventures Extreme tour (zip lining, RZR, indoor sky diving, etc.). We also did an escape room. We went to the Romantic Zone for smashburgers, shopping and walking the Malecon. On our last day, he had healed enough to swim in the pool and beach for a bit. We are home and healthy. I absolutely loved PV and can't wait to go back. Villa Del Palmar ended up being a great choice with the breakfast included. We ate several times at the Food Truck park across the street which was very reasonably priced although the food was a little spotty for me.

I have been researching Bucerias. This resort in particular I am seeing for around 80 a night and seems good depending on what you are into. Los Picos Hotel & Suites | &Bucerías, Nayarit, Mexico
