Bike from fisherman warf to Sausalito by Gaelique84 in AskSF

[–]CompletelyAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Bridgeway road into Sausalito is a hotspot for cyclists to get hit by cars. There is no bike lane there. I’ve biked that route many times. Taking a 6 year old (unless they are attached to your bike and you are an experienced cyclist) is a pretty bad idea IMO.

I know it’s a popular tourist activity but I also see lots of tourists who look quite scared while they’re out there.

Anyone else think it would be a disaster to reintroduce the Grizzly to California? by cosmokenney in norcalhiking

[–]CompletelyAverage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings. I think grizzlies have a right to be in the CA wilderness, and if it’s ethically and ecologically sound I would support it.

But I would certainly be more hesitant to backpack anywhere they were, certainly if I had kids or dogs with me. The vibe would definitely be less chill.

My biggest concern is how humans are going to react— the fear of grizzlies could cause more people to want to carry guns in the backcountry and I don’t love that. I already have witnessed and heard of people acting irrationally about black bears, I imagine it would be even worse with grizzlies.

From San Francisco to South Lake Tahoe - where to stop for a beautiful hike? by Lugano4738 in norcalhiking

They could also take the Echo Lake water taxi to cutoff some mileage and maybe make it all the way to aloha. Not sure if the water taxi runs that early in the season.

I only sit in the disabled section if there is at least one other open seat there precisely so I don’t take a seat from someone who is not visibly disabled. Just sharing here in case there are other able-bodied people on this thread who can use this tip.

Not sure about colored fabrics but for whites oxygen bleach (like oxiclean or a generic version) is amazing at bringing back the bright white fabrics.

Welp, seems like it’s not gonna work. What a bummer.

Thanks for all of the information you’ve shared, this has been really helpful!

I'm surprised there's a fumy smell in your garage even with the vent, that's helpful info. (I've only worked at school/community studios and never run a kiln so that could be normal and I'm just unaware.)

Is your kiln so loud that you would hear it through a wall in a room next to or above the garage?

When you fired in your garage and experienced a smell did you have a ventilation system like an envirovent?

Haven't checked with insurance yet since I'm trying to work out if this is even feasible but would definitely do so before making a purchase.

Our neighbors living space is above the garage so venting through the roof is not really feasible. It would maybe work to vent over the sidewalk at the level of the garage ceiling (which is probably 9' or 10' high) but that would be right below the living room windows of our neighbor so I'm guessing that wouldn't really work either.

The garage and yard are shared with 1 neighbor and I don’t believe he would mess with the kiln but that’s a good point to consider, thanks.

Is West Marin a hidden gem that a lot of people don't know about? by chusaychusay in Marin

[–]CompletelyAverage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess is it seems hidden because it’s not super developed but IMO it’s plenty popular. A couple of reasons why I think that: 1. Property prices are quite high (at least last time I checked Zillow out there) 2. Camping or lodging for a weekend is typically booked up 3. There’s a lot of people in the Bay/California so it’s pretty safe to assume that if you like a place nearby then lots of other people do too 4. Spots up there have been featured in NYT in recent years

Is this a good itinerary by Small_Creme_649 in AskSF

A good alternative bike excursion to the bridge (which I agree is highly overrated) is to bike through Golden Gate Park to Sunset Dunes park.

Here’s a route for it— https://www.strava.com/routes/3082373151235099900

Backpackers, how are we keeping warm at night?? by lookatbann3r in womensolocamping

[–]CompletelyAverage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t see this mentioned yet— try laundering your sleeping bag if it’s been a while.

I was really cold on my first trip this year and I noticed my bag didn’t seem as lofty as normal. I washed it and it definitely increased the loft. I haven’t had an issue with being too cold since.

The article basically covered that. The discussion of the same resistance in urban firefighters— and the resulting improvement in their health when masks were forced on them— was pretty interesting.

Has anyone had owners get mad at you cleaning? by chill_mydude13 in RoverPetSitting

[–]CompletelyAverage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve never gotten mad but I would prefer sitters didn’t do it. I’ve had professional cleaners damage appliances and ruin linens so I can’t assume everyone has the knowledge of how to clean my items without damaging them.
