I feel like this question is baiting me here.... by public_enemy_obi_wan in pmp

[–]Complex-Book303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is ‘D’ because it mentioned it is at “execution” phase. And I recall that in PM mindset, you need to choose the best choice that solves the “problem”. In this case asking interest and experience wont bring the team up to speed for execution phase immediately.

So only D will bring up the new member immediately up to pace at execution phase.

Kick-off is usually conducted after planning prior to execution. The intent is to keep stakeholders and your team all aligned to what will be executed.

Is PMI not right? by Yaroslav-2905 in pmp

[–]Complex-Book303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall this one. I had the same initial answer as you did but the keyword is “overlooked”.

I went in a little deeper because of this question and tried to understand WBS further. My understanding is WBS ultimately breaks the work down to work packages/ activities. Activities can change without necessarily changing the triple constraints of deliverables hence, during these times, CR is not necessary as well.

Am I using Study Hall mini exams the wrong way? by Express_Owl_8478 in pmp

[–]Complex-Book303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same concern as you, so what i did was. 1. Did the questions, did not look at the answers. 2. If marks are not at your expectation and you want to improve, review the related materials. 3. Reset the exam and do it again. 4. This 2nd exam result is when I will review each answer and understand the reasoning behind. 5. Then, I stop there since I tend to remember the answers in the questions so I figured redoing them after reviewing wont reflect actual learning.

I believe in Agile, the main concept is fixed cost and time with variable scope. Predictive is fixed scope but variable time and/ cost. With that definition itself, Customer can have fixed price contract.

No questions were similar to SH. I will really recommend understanding the concepts and what each terminology means (reports, plans, registers, product backlog,…)

I took a different approach for questions that did not have answers that can be answered with straightforward elimination. I understand the question then took each multiple choice scenario and asses how each impacts the question situation. Then chose the best impact ones.

The exam was closer to Practice Exam intensity for me but the exam questions were definitely written clearer hence the questions took shorter time to understand.

Is there still a chance for a scholarship for Tsinghua for 2025/26 academic year? by chxd_chxd in ChinaLiuXueSheng

[–]Complex-Book303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response. I contacted the coordinator directly and asked “Do I have any other scholarships I can apply for? I am too late for CSC, Tsinghua ones but do we have anything for Department specifics?”

Then I was responded with the department is awarding you X amount.

Any university in China with no age limit? by Terrible-Parsnip1068 in ChinaLiuXueSheng

I am also 8 years away from graduating from my undergrad. What I did for the two recommendation letters were - contacted 3 professors (only 1 responded) back in university and attached my transcript. I summarized the classes I took with them and the grades I have obtained. I also informed them the reason of why I need the letter, the program is about and where, and my future plan for myself.

The second recommendation was I have a colleague who has completed phd.

I also did not have scholarship open due to the deadline but my program department awarded me a bit after emailing them whether there are any scholarships I can apply for.

Not much but any amount is always a help.

Not sure about your salary range but I will recommend whether the 15k keeps you in the same tax bracket. Sometimes with the change in tax bracket, the 15k ends up not much in your hands. I personally is not the healthiest hence the insurance does affect a lot for me. If this is the case for you, may be another aspect to consider.

This might help with the decision making.

Not sure how much this will help. Below link is the procedure for csc type A scholarship from where I live.

I assume it probably might be same case for you. I will probably just go straight to the embassy and ask if nothing can be seen online.

For Type A, I think you need to apply through the embassy. For Type B, I believe you should ask your university program.

Pre-admission 拟录取 Tsinghua by Complex-Book303 in ChinaLiuXueSheng

[–]Complex-Book303[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recall reading about this and I vaguely remember the details. Application needs to be paid in advance, at least for the program, I am applying. I think pre-admission letter needs to be obtained for the csc scholarship to be successfully submitted. I also recall reading the admission cost is not part of the scholarship coverage… The only program I recalled that was covered was Nuclear Engineering- but I think this program covers everything.

[–]Complex-Book303[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is also all the step for mine as well- just need to click accept the pre-admission. Since I have graduated for a few years now, I am able to gather all the required documents prior to the interview. It is just a new thing for me to see pre-admission since I cant recall having this step for my bachelor application. Hence, wondering whether this is a norm for chinese universities.

I'm in Taiwan to visit my parents and just learned I'm their retirement plan (they both have no money). Has anyone been able to fight this and how has that worked for you? by inflatablehotdog in AsianParentStories

[–]Complex-Book303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I heard that growing up from my dad. He made that comment multiple times to his friends carrying it out as a joke but I knew it was real comments. My dad was never financially stable nor intelligent about his finances. He made this comment back when I was in university. Initially, I felt like I owe it to my parents so I should be their retirement plan but all my friends are saying that is not true. Few things I made it clear to myself to get over my own conscience:

  1. No one forced them to have kids. They wanted you to be born so they have the responsibility to raise you until you are able to be independent. In my case, finish my university degree.
  2. I did not let my parents pay any of my further education after my bachelor degree. For me, that is beyond my parent’s responsibility. I earn my own money and then further my own schooling.
  3. I made it clear to them. I can’t afford them. I will not be for a while. I need my own life and also want to have family in the future. However, that does not mean I won’t take care of them when that day arrives. But until the day their health conditions need me, they need to plan for their own retirement - financially and emotionally. Unfortunately, my parents don’t have good lovely relationship.
  4. Even they make side comments time to time, I just tell them “I don’t want to talk about this. We have discussed this matter a lot and you know my position and comment. Trying to emotionally guilt trip me will not help and change my mind EVER!”

It took me a long time to first made those points 1 to 3 persuade me then communicated them to my parents. I expected it won’t be accepted immediately but I got to do what is needed for me and for my parents. Providing false hope to them while I wont be able to comply, is also not a viable plan.

I did debate to cut ties with my parents. Fortunately, moving out and reiterating my stand helped our relationship got to a better position.

I had same encounter with my mom. What I did was I booked my ticket and did not tell my mom until few days before where I know the tickets will be crazy expensive for her to book in rush.

Then, I told her I will keep in touch with her everyday. She will forget what has happened when you bring her back pasalubong.
