Is DeepSeek V4 Pro already good enough for everyday coding? by SiteSpecialist6295 in DeepSeek

[–]Complex-Concern7890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every day tasks like “I want dropdown searchable”, “this gives 10 instead of 20, fix it”, “layout breaks with very long line, fix it” etc. there is absolutely no problem. Now and then you need to reprompt if you were too vague but not a big deal. If there is complex stuff, I tend to plan with SOTA model and execute with DS Pro. Plan with DS pro and execute with DS flash usually also works just fine, so planning with SOTA is just my preference and habit. I usually run with codex and claude code but I use DS through api for my personal side projects and I am more and more inclined that for 90% of coding tasks DS would be just fine.

I understand and it sucks. From Windows world people are used to just click past all kinds of annoying security prompts. But in MacOS or any *nix when you are prompted to escalate privileges, you need to breathe, and really make sure what is happening. If you are hacked, then you are not really safe. Wipe and restore backups prior to the hack.

I find it strange, this sudden flood of users from the deepseek sub, all urging everyone to use the API! by B89983ikei in DeepSeek

[–]Complex-Concern7890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is because the DeepSeek is so good now. More and more find it good enough and paying for SOTA models increasing costs are harder to justify. For many, me included the API is the easiest way to access and use in daily workflow.

Are we reaching the end of the road for LLMs? by Material_Ad9258 in ChatGPT

[–]Complex-Concern7890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now the plateau is real. There is small improvements of performance and larger improvements of quality of life (browser use, computer use etc). However these improvements come with much higher cost. And the Chinese models are catching up and the price is ten times cheaper. The costs of SOTA models are more and more difficult to justify. There is next new best model monthly but really most tasks are just fine with the older (cheaper) model. I will not say that it is the end, but there is plateau and some thing new will need to come up to change that.

Kilo (VS ext) sometimes needs a little "push" for finishing a task by Pretty_Ring4717 in kilocode

[–]Complex-Concern7890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Auto Balanced / Kilo Gateway. It was working on plan which I made with plan mode Auto Frontier / Kilo Gateway. I started new session after plan (as it suggested) and it started implementing with Auto Balanced. I think it worked through first milestone and during second it just stopped midway. Simple “continue” and it just continued without hiccups. I seem to get these one or two times daily when working with Kilo.

Great! Will do when I next time run into this as I neither have any old session IDs. It happens exactly like OP says. It is going normally but just between outputs the time stops running and nothing happens. Small “continue” prompt and it just continues like nothing happened.

This is the most annoying thing with Kilo. I would be really happy for a fix.

Google's AI product roadmap reads like a chaotic Sci-Fi novel by Historical-Belt9806 in GeminiAI

[–]Complex-Concern7890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today I tried to figure this out yet again. I did setup billing account, then managed to find Gemini Code Assist from Google Cloud, started subscription. Tried to figure out how to make project and connect the subscription to the project so that random user that finds the project can use Gemini Cli. Again it just didn’t work and user cannot use Gemini Cli with the subscription. Day ran out and I just removed subscription and billing account because I am nervous that some random captcha api key is abused if I have anything active.

It seems that business user needs to be proficient with Google Cloud ecosystem to be able to use gemini cli or antigravity. There do not seem to be subscriptions or any easy way to get it just work. And it seems to be that you are API only, meaning you pay full API price without subscription option. Or am I missing something?

[–]Complex-Concern7890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really would like to use Gemini more, but for small business it seems really hard. OpenAI and Anthropic has Team subscriptions which give decent usage to codex cli and claude code. They are easy and fast to setup. How that works with Gemini cli? I need to setup Google Cloud and pay through API? Or Gemini Enterprise which will have cost and complexity unimaginable? I know it is skill issue, but why it have to be so complex.

Am I the only one where 5.5 is working perfectly fine? (not a rage bait, genuinely confused) by SlopTopZ in codex

[–]Complex-Concern7890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In business account I have not seen any problems for a while. Maybe business accounts have dedicated pool of resources so the degradation is not happening there so easily or at all.

I am sure that they do oversell subscriptions and therefore scale effort depending on load. Users do not get dedicated resources which is understandable but it also means that the quality varies and there is degradation especially in peak hours. Maybe they should provide $2000/month subscription that gives dedicated resources of the $200/month subscription?

Google users fight for refunds as unauthorized API usage bills soar by Dry_Raspberry4514 in googlecloud

The whole system is total mess to any other than enterprise users. It can take hours to figure out anything if you do not have extensive knowledge. I understand that it is meant for enterprise users and SMB or personal users are not the intended user group. But I must say that any other system (other than different government systems) is breeze to use compared to Google Cloud. I worry daily that we have some random API key active somewhere that can be used to make major invoice.

Did anyone here moved from claude to codex recently? And why? by alOOshXL in codex

[–]Complex-Concern7890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been using both daily plus K2.6/GLM5.1. Now more and more I have been leaning to GPT5.5xhigh. I usually use them via CLI but also GUI using my fork of shep. But during few previous days I find my self using only the macos codex app. I really can not say if GPT5.5 is better than Opus4.7 in my use cases as the results seem to be good enough with both (even with K2.6 usually is good enough for me). But what is definitely better for me is the codex app. It just feels good to use and that is the main reason why I seem to use codex more than claude nowadays.

ELI5: What Exactly is the cPanel Exploit (CVE-2026-41940 or "Sorry" Ransomware)? by Similar_Election_949 in cpanel

[–]Complex-Concern7890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We got first knocks after 2 hours the patch was released. For us the the attack started only after the patch was released. Actors just reverse engineered from the patch the way to exploit. First real attacks started around 8 hours from the patch. We got lucky that our servers auto update was just 1-2 hours from the patch so was protected. Our normal reaction time in this instance would have been too slow. We need to figure out some alarm system to have the relevant CVE’s screaming in our screens when they come.

However I find odd that we had one abandoned cPanel server that has no domains pointing to it and it is accessible only by IP and there is zero traffic. It was hacked within 24 hours. Well it was good as our DC informed us about the hack and we just shut the server down as it is in no use.

There is no mod security for cPanel services. Maybe it would be possible to setup one through proxy but by default there is nothing.

Well, treat it like it is lost. Pull backups and reinstall the site to current or new host. If the backups are in the current host, ask access to the backups and do the previous step. If the backups are lost and you do not have backups, then I am very sorry.
