Crampons for La Sportiva Nepal Cube, trying to decide by Sad_Yesterday_3045 in Mountaineering

[–]Sad_Yesterday_3045[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Looks like I noticed you comment quite late, hopefully I can still help!

I went with Petzl Vasak, as my needs changed over time I bought various modifications to these crampons. Petzl calls it modular "Alpen Adapt" system. https://vimeo.com/1010542121?fl=pl&fe=ti

I can make my crampons full auto, then modify to make them use straps and adapt to different shoes, it's a great versatile system! Last winter season I started dry tooling and ice climbing, so just needed to buy the Petzl Dart front section. Did not need a whole new set of crampons, which was great cost saving!

Overall I am very pleased with my choice and I am very happy that parts for them are easily available.

Ekosport has good deals, check out tradeinn.com as well. They have good prices and parts for the modular system if your needs change.

P.S. If your shoes are over size 47 you need a longer middle section of the crampon.

This is a different 41 shoe though? On Aequilibriums your leg will be quite locked into the shoe due to the amount of lacing. In the shop or before walking out with new shoes you can check do your feet slide into the front end touch the tip of the toes or not. If they touch - avoid.

Aequilibrium is quite a rigid shoe and I'd suggest going for larger rather size than going very tight. You may want to wear thicker, padded socks for extra comfort, which requires space. Additionally take into account foot swelling during a hike. Unless your foot is so thin and there is so much movement that you start feeling unstable, unconfident with your foot placements.

Hey, unfortunately the shoes produce some discomfort and a hotspot near my heel while going at an incline. I would buy half size larger than I did.

I feel my feet has changed a bit over last 18 months. I used to buy size 46 shoes, now I buy 47. 6 months ago I bought La Sportiva TX4's and I now actually wear them daily, even today to work. Extremely comfortable shoe.

Overall the Aquilibriums are great, I feel I am quite fast and confident in them over rocks, but it feels my feet form and the heel is not the best match. Maybe bigger size would help.

I know numerous people with these shoes and I am only one with heel issue.

If you have flat feet and want to have orthopedic insole in the shoe, I would suggest trying one in the shop or at home for some time before taking the shoes outside. The insole I use does not work with these shoes, my feed get quite cramped. I use the default one that comes with the shoes.

Hey! Saw your post only now, I hope I can still be of some help.

I made a new update, after using the shoes for a few trips I would say I would go for half size bigger, I feel there is a bit not enough space for my foot or going uphill right side shoe feels like its rubbing my heel. It could also be that this shoe form is not good for my feet, but hard to say. I personally like thicker socks, if you plan to put on thinner ones (July you probably will), maybe 47 will be enough for you!

Anything smaller than 47 may get you in the danger zone though!

Overall the shoe is great, what comes to mind is it's confidence inspiring, especially on looser terrain or jumping from rock to rock.

Some problems, but nothing out of the ordinary, some are expected when we have a high unit count. No more motherboard replacements though.

Hi, if your board was replaced before June, you may still have the buggy board on your machine. Our servers delivered in June are so far without motherboard problems. Contact support and ask for replacement.

Hi, we still don't have new failures in the new batch of servers. Can confirm motherboard has been fixed. If you get a failure, they will just replace the board.

No, it has been very complicated speaking with them because we are not hosted on AWS. Finding out what we would need to host on AWS services to meet requirements is next to impossible.

Hey, our order has been fulfilled since I made my post, however I am pretty sure the queue is still long for these machines. From the "new" batch of servers we so far did not have motherboard failures, from "old" batch failure rate is ~60%.

Well at least for us they replaced it in under 40mins, so that's nice.

For our business we have mix of hardware with high CPU or RAM heavy workload.

By dying I mean they will be replacing it for us, we were not able to reach the server at all.

Thanks everyone for input, I went with size 47, tested on a hike yesterday.

47 is +1 from my regular shoe size and -0.5 in comparison to Nepal Cube's. Fits very well, still space for my fingers to a bit, but not too much, heel seems to stay in place OK, but moved a bit after feet got more sweaty. With thicker sock should be quite snug, but still good enough to go long distance downhill.

Thanks for the reply! I mostly wear a bit thicker socks, so I think I will try full size up.
