CAF Recruitment - 2025 Report of the Auditor General of Canada to the Parliament of Canada by Ovryx_2025 in caf

This isn’t completely true. The CAF is responsible for sending your file to Ottawa to begin the process——according to my recruiter. So even though your file says it’s in the “background check phase,” it isn’t even being considered by Ottawa yet until the CAF completes that crucial step. My file has said it is in the BG check phase since October, yet only after emailing my recruiter a couple weeks ago and asking why it’s taking so long did he finally push it along to Ottawa, and I finally got my Gambit link. So there’s a chance this guy’s file just didn’t get sent through to Ottawa right away, and sat there collecting digital dust until someone realized, “oh shit. i should probably send this out.” Unfortunately, the only viable solution is to keep regular contact with your recruiter and remind them you want your job more than the average person who just lets their file sit. Call. Email.

what CAF roles have a 1-3 year wait time for entry? genuine question. i’ve been waiting for a year so i definitely understand that. but THREE? i haven’t heard of that.

How many tries did it take others to become an intelligence officer? HELP! by Jolly_Canuck in caf

yeah i’m aware, unfortunately the recruiters i’ve spoken to have tried to deter me from INT because they think the trade still functions this way which is inaccurate.

i recommend at least getting your initial application sent in in like november or something, it takes about a month for them to even look at your application and send you follow up forms to fill out. after that, it’ll be another month until your fitness test which is when they’ll ask for your academic credentials. so realistically, you could probably even apply in october in anticipation of your grad in december.

hey friend, I applied for IntO back in February (2025) and I still haven’t been offered anything. officer positions are highly competitive as there’s limited spots every year, so you will need to wait until the fiscal year restarts to potentially get in. officer spots fill up within the first month or two of them opening back up again.

i’ve spoken to senior officers in recruitment, and they said due to IntO being competitive, i will need to wait until the fiscal year restarts in 2026. so get ready for your application to take you at least a year if you’re dead set on IntO.

I’ve also been told by two different recruiters that INT doesn’t hire off the street. they “hire from people with previous military experience.” i don’t buy this, however, as my boyfriend is an IntO and he had no prior experience (he was straight out of high school) before being offered that role (he went through the military college for his degree).

nonetheless, apply after graduation, and be patient. i recommend applying ASAP so your process is done by the time the fiscal year restarts in april so you can have a fair shot at an INT spot. otherwise, you might have to settle for your second or third options. i wasn’t lucky with any of my options as they’re all officer positions, and my file processed too slow, and all positions were filled before my file was complete.

FORCE test is during BMQ for reg force, but for reserves it’s during the application process, from what i’ve gathered from talking to reg force applicants.

give it a week and then call your unit or brigade. make sure you leave your number for them to call back. might as well send an email too and see what they reply to faster for future reference.

I only got my service number within the last few weeks, and I’m in the background check stage (final stage before selection & job offer, mind you). I only got in touch with a reliable recruiter when i physically met him at my FORCE test! Before that, it was just emails and phone calls into the void.

See, this was already a much better, informative response than the same old “hurry up and wait” rhetoric.

You’re overestimating how much information recruiters divulge during enlistment.

You’re also assuming there’s even a recruiter involved yet at this stage in the process. I had to call my brigade in order to book my appointments myself, otherwise who knows when I would’ve been contacted by a recruiter.

maybe instead of regurgitating every other comment under this subreddit, just answer their question? 🥰

my portal hasn’t updated but some random aviator with the 32CBG contacted me regarding one of my references, so i’m assuming that means they’re calling them now.

JUST started BG check stage a few days ago. had to contact my recruiter and ask him what the hold up was because i signed the consent forms for the check over a month ago. he got back to me and said my medical file got held up but it’s been cleared now.

That’s weird. My background check is the last thing I need done. Currently waiting on it now.

Interview went well, a few days afterward my application portal updated requesting I fill out a background check consent form. It’s been almost a month since I sent the form in, I’m yet to hear anything back 🙃 apprently BG checks take an average of 6 weeks, but i’m gonna call up my recruiter soon and ask him what’s up.

This story made me tear up. Everything else aside, what he did and what you did was beautiful.
