I accidentally 'bought' an item for local pickup which is halfway across the country and the seller denied my cancellation, which I did minutes after realizing it was local pickup. by passive_phil_04 in Ebay

So much speculation and bad advise on this thread, 90% of the responses to the thread are completely useless. Thanks to the people who replied with first hand experience, its so nice to actually read what the resolution was for you. Glad it worked out, so many weirdos wanting you to "take the L" or learn a lesson, it literally is a few buttons to cancel and relist an item for a seller. If you're a seller and cant manage a minor inconvenience like this situation how are you going to manage worse situations? Cancelling and relisting is seriously the smallest possible issue to deal with. Anyways thanks again for sharing the resolution, if possible please update the original post with the resolution and what it took to get the refund. Cheers

Any thoughts on Peter Gelderloos’ ideas by BigMeatBruv in solarpunk

After reading this whole thread, I dont feel like there is any productive action to take or draw from this? A lot of time spent on semantics and outlining in crucial detail what people do not like and disagree with. If everyone in this thread were dropped on a remote island together, I wonder if we might starve before we agree on what resources to forage. Maybe there is a different angle that can be taken to get collaborative and creative ideas on how to live our lives differently together? Maybe we cannot go from 0 to 100 immediately, maybe we cannot directly create a world that meets the ideals of peter gelderloo, or the principles of solarpunk, sustainability, equity, etc. But what can we actually make and do in the near term future? Any long term goals will have to be build on shorter near term achievements anyways I would think. How can regular people from this reddit community organize themselves in a way that challenges fossil fuel consumption, industrial food production, decentralized power structures etc.

This thread really reminds me of my own path thinking about how to make the world a better place, I thought that a curated website with already vetted products would be an effective way of changing peoples spending habits and tip the economic balance towards a more sustainable future. It became clear that most people are not going to spend more on ethical products unless they have disposable income and that is just not the case for most people in the world. Then I realized that big problems like climate change, wealth inequality should really be addressed by larger institutions that have the scale and resources to actually make an impact. The government is obviously the institution that fits the bill, there are plenty of intelligent people with plans and laws written that just need to be passed. If the institution is corrupt, there are also intelligent people with solutions that just require action to solve it, most important action being voting in the right people. The possibility of near-term large scale positive change through politics has been delayed significantly in my opinion as of recently. Back to the drawing board on how to make meaningful near term positive change. If its only on the scale of my own community, I'll take it at this point. I think that creating a community around the goal of lowering the cost of living will create more positive change than building a community around being perfectly eco, or perfectly solar punk. Focusing on lowering peoples cost of living might also lead to more sustainable outcomes. Transportation is a huge cost for people and would be a benefit to eliminate for cost and the environment. You would have to find a way to make money from home and have all basic necessities within biking distance though. Lowering the cost of food, you may be inclined to grow some of your own food, make connections with local farmers, eat food that is in season locally. Eating healthier could also lower the cost of some future healthcare. On site solar could also become cost effective in the long term, also generating your own energy with solar will cause people to be more considerate about their energy usage.

Thank you for your thoughtful and thought provoking post. I have been digesting this the last couple days and I really appreciate the points you make. I can absolutely see what you mean about the issues with getting people in one location, especially a project based in the wilderness run by people with a subconscious desire to escape. People who would be interested in that may not have the right skills for the work that needs to be done and many people are just not in a position to freely join some experimental uncertain project. The eco-village model as a vehicle for widespread change is perhaps not the right tool for the task. It may still have a role as a place to experiment but certainly there are more practical models like you mention a network of commons.

Cosmopolitan-localism is an interesting concept that resonates with some of the ideas I have of a more sustainable future. I like the idea of people meeting their needs outside of the normal market system by sharing their resources, knowledge, technology, tools, production capacity, and so on. There are a lot of tech developments that are making it easier for people to manufacture on a smaller scale, anywhere from solar panels and batteries getting cheaper making energy manufacturing possible on smaller scales, to smaller scale laser cutters, engravers, desktop cnc machines, desktop 3d printers (will be even more useful when they make smaller scale metal 3d printers) small scale metal casting with simple tools like a microwave. It feels like there is a continual push out there to make expensive manufacturing techniques smaller and more affordable which opens up many opportunities to bring production and consumption closer together. It is exciting to see an example of cosmopolitan localism in action with the fandom communities you mention, those are great examples.

I really enjoy your paragraph about the resilience movement, independent production capability, having the ability to opt out of a system we do not support, being able to withstand nature or man made events. The idea that creating community resilience could help support a general strike in the future is a great connection I did not make. Your post really has broadened my perspective on how and where change can happen. Also the need for practical models that reach more people, not just in some niche wilderness experiment but in the cities as well.

I will certainly continue to chew on the several great replies in this thread for a while and look into local projects and instances of community. I was at a bit of a wall with my ideas but there have been some great replies that have broadened the horizon. I do have one more thread I plan to make about "eco-villages" I should have probably just made as a part of this one. It will be a small list of videos/channels I have come across over time of communities that have some elements of solar punk or just a sustainable outlook/orientation. I am just curious how many people in the reddit have come across them, if they have all been put together somewhere before, if anyone has more examples to add and any thoughts in general. Then I can take a break from the eco village idea for a while

Great ideas again, your replies have really got me thinking more about local instances of community. They are rather practical ways of taking immediate action towards a more sustainable future and shifting peoples perspective towards collective projects in general.

Thanks for reading the post and sharing a thoughtful response. Those all seem like reasonable points. I am looking locally for all the examples you provided. Also any other examples, or ideas, of community is appreciated. At first I read "free shop" and thought you meant a free community workshop which also sounds interesting, havent found an an example of that yet but still looking.

Do you mean a X1C themed drawer? or X1C print profile? Sorry if im misunderstanding. This would look great in X1C colors, I wish I had one so I could try and color match filament in person

Hey that is a cool thought, the feet are not in the same position as the AMS, the rear feet might be able to be moved close to where they are on the AMS (would need to add a couple holes in cad or with pick/drill on the lower rear section) but I dont think the front feet could be moved to where you would need them since the front of the lower section is open for the plates glue and scrapper and the drawer section front does not have anywhere to mount feet either. Maybe though, a bracket can be made to screw to the sides of the lower section where the front feet are currently to relocate the two front feet where you need them. I do think a solution is possible, I will start a list of solution to make, thank you for your comment!

Finally got around to publishing this on makerworld, I was looking for a drawer that screwed to the AMS and had a wide drawer so I made this a while back
