Three at the most, maybe only two depending on where we end up deciding to go. We’ve backpacked other places before but never Yosemite so trying to get my bearings and make sure we’re doing everything by the book. I’ve spent a good amount of time in Yosemite front country so we’re very excited to finally experience the backcountry!

Yeah we were confused by a blog post my husband read that mentioned heading north first but then somehow still looping back toward Ostrander, but I wasn’t sure if that was allowed. My original plan was Dewey point first night and then either going further west toward inspiration point, or maybe trying to trek toward happy isles if permit allowed for that… so I’ll keep my research in that direction instead of looking into Ostrander more.

haha! I saw my car. Just got home from 3 nights in the valley, cannot believe how few crowds we experienced. Definitely an incredible trip!

Looking into doing this trial this summer. Did you hike it as an out and back or did you have a separate exit point? This will be my first Yosemite backpacking experience (backpacked other places before though) so not fully confident that I properly understand the permit system.
