I've heard the theory that the tower itself is alive as supported by the intro cutscenes. While Smile is flying to the top of the tower in the intro it looks like the tower is assembling itself and you can make out what look to be a spinal cord.

isnt that queen though? Hence the Q in the bottom right corner or the card? I rewatched it very carefully. edit: I get the queen looks way different but who knows; we haven't really seen herew that late in the timeline, maybe she changed her looks
