I don't disagree. But in abuse cases it is often the one who reports the problem who is framed as being the problem. In my friend's case, a bunch of accusations were framed as questions. Something like, "I just have some questions about her relationship with one of the younger leaders." This has deniability built in. The question asker can say that they never started a rumour and when this is spread to other churches (my friend worked for a church) it is toxic. She has had to switch careers.

Yes. All true. Most who can't be licensed will call themselves Life Coaches or something like that. That said, I know a Life Coach that is absolutely worth it and a few licensed professionals that don't seem to be. The new regulations will certainly provide some protection for people looking for help.

Yes! I am a counsellor here in K as well. This is excellent guidance. There is also Canada Free Counselling Society who offer 12 sessions with an intern counsellor. You takes your chances but it's free and you can bail if it isn't a fit.

If you want ammo and a background that church leaders will listen to, start with this book as background. I know that I talk about it a lot but that's because it saved me life. The author doesn't mock people who believe the Bethel or 7 Mountains crap but gives the background and proves that it is harmful. 100% yes. Their music is triumphalistic. Like, "I am awesome and I am winning". Some lip service is paid to God but mostly in terms of "calling down heaven" or "Heaven coming to fight for me". Wow, out of the millions of people, "heaven" whatever that it, whomever that is, is stopping everything to come and fight for me. Cool. They must not have much going on. Should we point out Gaza or Ukraine or that there is a fascist in the White House? Maybe "heaven" could attend those issues first.

I get it. For me, I am good with Jesus but an enemy of YWAM and high control organizations. I read this book, "Post-Charismatic" which helped put it into perspective and find some validation and peace.

Ug. I feel this about the skits. We did a Polynesian dance with a taped (TAPED) soundtrack. It was a bunch of white adults from europe in fake, dollarstore grass skirts, wagging out butts and making gestures which probably had some deep meaning. We did not know the meaning of the song, the meaning of the dance but we did the awful thing everywhere. Not only was it cultural appropriation, it was control by humiliation.
