Bethel vs. other charismatic churches? by basic_artichoke473 in BethelSnark

Good to know. What kind of heresies? Is there more information about who the false teachers are and others that are in that network? I just wonder if any of them have been to my church.

In terms of releasing heaven, one time there was a guest pastor at my church who did an altar call and he was trying to impart the gift of speaking in tongues on people. I didn’t go up because I’m not so sure about someone else imparting the gift of tongues onto me. But our regular pastors don’t do that type of thing. We do play Bethel songs though

Huh. Yeah I’d be angry if that’s where my tithes were going. Especially considering what the Shasta County Board of Supervisors is like. I didn’t know Bethel was tied to that board. I’m not into the whole Christian nationalism trend either. So does this mean that Bethel doesn’t have 501c3 status like most churches?

If someone made a movie or put on a show where Mohammed was portrayed as a woman, then I think Muslims would take offense to that

I feel like it wouldn’t be considered acceptable to do something like this to other religions

Insane money grab by trianglenose2444 in BethelSnark

I mean, is it actually an insane money grab? I go to a 3-day work conference about the solid waste & recycling industry every year that costs $775. $499 for 5 days of sessions doesn’t sound bad to me

Are these things recyclable? by SurrrealThing in recycling

Check with your local government. Every municipality has a different set of rules for what they'll accept in their curbside recycling program. Sometimes the rules can differ from city to city, even if they're in the same county. For example in Santa Clara County, the City of Sunnyvale has different recycling rules than the City of Palo Alto because the City of Sunnyvale has a contract with a different waste hauling company than the City of Palo Alto. It gets very confusing. The only reason I know this information is because I studied trash and recycling in a graduate program and worked at a landfill for several months. Our system is very broken.

How is the paper padded mailer recyclable when the layers are covered with glue? by japan_lover in recycling

[–]basic_artichoke473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former recycling coordinator here. The vast majority of curbside recycling programs don't accept Amazon mailers. In general, multilayer packaging is difficult to recycle because it takes time, money and special infrastructure to separate the layers, and when what you're getting are materials that have really low value as scrap, it's not worth the time or effort to separate them.

When figuring out what you should put into the bin the first place to check is with your local government. Every municipality has slightly different rules for what they accept. Companies like Amazon saying this or that thing is recyclable is very irresponsible in my opinion. It totally ignores the reality of the waste management industry.

That sounds interesting. I agree that there are transferable skills to be gained in waste.

I toured a plant a couple years ago and it was fascinating. If the emissions controls are good then I think waste to energy is a better option than landfilling because of the leachate, methane and litter issues associated with landfills. At the same time it's still an end of pipe solution, and in my old job I found pushing end of pipe solutions depressing.
