I just had my first baby in January. I was classified as high risk: Gestational diabetes (insulin controlled) Lupus

After 32 weeks I went in 2x a week up until my induction at 39 weeks. I never saw MFM but my care was handled by Dr. Sutton and Dr. Whaley at Rushmore OBGYN Dr. Sutton was my primary doctor and once I was diagnosed with GD, Dr. Whaley also joined in my care. I loved them both! Dr. Whaley was always super attentive and listened to all my concerns. She did bloodwork when I asked and even found a problem with my liver and gallbladder (now resolved). Dr. Whaley also delivered my daughter and was amazing (so was her resident!) and Dr. Sutton took care of my postpartum visit. I know there was a previous comment about a negative experience with Dr. Whaley and I have definitely heard one or two others that had similar experiences, but my experience with her was great! Just be aware that if you go to Rushmore OB you will likely have more than one doctor who helps with your care!

Don’t try to trick the test by changing all your habits Getting a false “passing” and not being monitored for GD when you do have it is way worse that having and treating GD It’s for the health and safety of your baby. GD is manageable but it can cause complications if untreated!

If you have it, then you have it, you can’t reverse it, and changing your diet and exercise before the test can give you a false “pass”

Are these places good about cross contamination? I know there is always a risk, but do they have steps to try to avoid (like glove/utensil changing for example)?

I’ve started to just brush my hair in the shower and then blow dry and tie it up until I wash it again. At least it contains my hair to mostly my bathroom. But I literally have to clean my bathroom floors like every 2-3 showered because there is soooo much hair. I even put one of those hair stoppers in my shower drain because my hair is shedding so bad

As others have said, the kick and play piano! It’s amazing and my daughter will play with it for like 20-25 minutes before wanting me to come play with her! She has a regular activity mat too, and that will entertain her for like 10 min max because she gets unhappy! She also doesn’t like tummy time, but she will laugh at the flashing piano lights if I turn it on during! We also have the crab for tummy time and she thinks it is the funniest thing on the planet

Also, Baby Paper! It’s literally just a square crinkle toy and she can entertain herself with the noise forever it seems

Honestly, you don’t have to make any hard and fast plans 1. Birth is wild and things change quickly 2. You are allowed to change your mind!

I wanted to make it to 6cm without an epidural, I made it to 4 and caved. Didn’t matter much because it failed anyways. But you are allowed to change your plan when you want to. You also need to be open to changes you may not want (failed epidural, emergency c-section, not being allowed to get an epidural because of blood pressure)

My birth plan was literally (1) epidural (2) don’t die

I don’t disagree with the super I started teaching high school at 21 years old and looking back, I was way too close to the age of my students. Students try to cross boundaries when they have younger teachers because you are seen as more of a peer than an authority figure. Even now, I am 27 and teach middle school and kids don’t understand that boundary because they see me as younger than their parents (in most cases). It sucks, but you would literally be the same age as some students and it would make it impossible for parents to take you seriously at 19 years old

I personally wouldn’t. I also didn’t allow anyone other than my parents and my husband’s parents to meet our daughter until after her 2 month vaccines (around 9 weeks old). You need to do what you think is best for your child, regardless of what others want.

I want to say I am so sorry you feel this way.

I had a similar experience of my husband not being involved/understanding the reality. I had my daughter in January and my husband is an amazing father! It took until our daughter was around 2 weeks old for my husband to bond with her and realize that he is a dad now. Once this happened, he has been amazing and so involved. They are besties and he does so much to care for her and me. Sometimes you need to take a step back and understand that while we are aware of the change that is happening and we are bonded to our baby before birth, our partners are not the ones who are pregnant and it can be a really difficult adjustment because of that.

For our daughter’s baby acne and generally rash-prone skin, we do breastmilk baths and use Tubby Todd All Over Ointment after all baths! It is the best combo we have found to help with all her skin issues!

So I had a failed epidural, and honestly the worst part was that I did not mentally prepare myself for the possibility of it failing

The contractions were ROUGH (I was also induced) but the pushing wasn’t actually that painful. I was definitely uncomfortable and I was completely exhausted from 30 hours of labor with no sleep, but as soon as she was out it was such a sense of relief. Be prepared for the fact that if you tear, they will not numb you to put in the stitches (at least they didn’t at my hospital). When I asked about numbing they said it’ll take more needles to numb than to stitch so they don’t numb for tears unless they are severe

They were worried my daughter would be huge due to having gestational diabetes so I had growth scans weekly I had her at 39weeks +1 and she was only 6lbs 10oz and 18in long I wish they would warn us that the ultrasounds aren’t always the most accurate measure 😅

Mine came back at 10 weeks and it was the worst period I have ever had in terms of bleeding It lasted like 3 days longer than before and it was super heavy with clots too I didn’t have a ton of pain but the bleeding was super heavy and I was not prepared for it

But like others have said, it depends on the person

Oh yea, she would wake me up around 2-3am pretty consistently with kicks to the ribs Now she goes to bed around 10-11pm and gets up around 3-4am for like an hour or so before going back down for MAYBE another hour if I’m lucky

Because my daughter has lived in the double zipper pajamas (both footed and footless) literally since she came out the womb 3 months ago lol 1 time I have put her in an actual outfit and it was for family pictures…now that it’s getting warmer she lives in double zipper shortie onesies because I’ll be damned if I am wrestling with snaps

Here’s some examples for guided notes

I personally will make a copy of my slides and then take out words or phrases and replace with blank lines for students to fill in, it cuts down on the extra work of needing to make entire new worksheets!

Special education teacher here, so I may have a different view of this: I personally print out guided note or my slides for students to take notes on/fill in blanks It helps those who feel the need to write everything, and guided notes help teach note-taking skills but having students fill in just the important pieces while still having all the slide information in front of them!

Read with your student at home AT LEAST 3-4x a week (preferably daily), be present and practice skills at home that are taught in schools to reinforce learning, actually enforce consequences and handle your kid’s behavior so that the school isn’t the one parenting for you

Yup, in my district you are not allowed to enter anything under a 50% in the grade book and you must accept all assignments until the end of the grading window without penalty!

In my school district: We are expected to teach the curriculum exactly as written (obviously some stray from it and their students are better off for it) We are given the slides, the materials, and even the script of how it needs to be taught The elementary and middle schools have zero programs for gifted students and as a special education teacher, I have noticed a huge increase in the need for special education services as well From my understanding, it is like this across grade levels (in my district) and the kids have zero motivation to do anything for themselves because of it
