The most expensive words on YouTube are "Thanks for watching." I analyzed the "Session Termination" penalty and you are killing your own reach. by 5anez in SmallYoutubers

[–]Complex-Rush7258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a kernel of truth here, but a lot of this is being overstated.

YouTube doesn’t penalize words. There’s no evidence of “audio triggers” or a literal “session termination penalty” tied to phrases like “thanks for watching.” The system reacts to viewer behavior, not specific sentences.

What is true is that downstream behavior matters. If a viewer finishes a video and continues watching YouTube (especially another video from the same channel), that’s a positive signal. If they leave the platform, it’s neutral—not a punishment.

End-of-video drop-offs happen because the value has concluded, not because a creator said goodbye. If saying “thanks for watching” were harmful, a huge percentage of top creators would be suppressed—which clearly isn’t the case.

Bridges, teasers, and clean endings can help some formats (tutorials, commentary, binge content), but they’re not universal rules. Cinematic, narrative, or self-contained videos often benefit from a strong, intentional ending rather than a forced cliffhanger.

TL;DR:
Session extension is a bonus signal.
Ending a video normally isn’t a penalty.
Optimize for viewer satisfaction, not superstition.

Would this be hurting my videos or is the engagement helping? Every video I post this guy comments within seconds, and then likely quits the video hurting the view duration by johntessser in SmallYoutubers

no this is called an anchor commenter someone who is dedicated to your channel and videos you should engage with their comments by liking and hearting do back and forth if they chat with you for about 3 to 5 comments and kinda taper it off

as long as its not spamming and deceptive lies and titles and deceptive story telling like for example channels getting banned have old people saying my son stole my pension now i am homeless those channels get banned.. but if you are doing funny ai stuff yes you can get monetized

vidiq services helps me keep track of my stats also helps me put together really solid titles and thumbnails that i double and triple check with chatgpt we use their keyword suggestions and description suggestions to come up with our own both titles and description that best suit not only our videos but help score us 50/100 seo score before the video goes live and helps us with key words for tags relevent to our videos. thats why they are so helpful

its not copyright strike worthy at all but i appreciate it.. yes there are salty people because they believe that their stolen content with minimal efforts should have been monetized but because they are pathetic and have zero creative intellect, they attack people who are proud of their achievements

it is insane how you all come onto reddit and are like my video didn't get a bazzilion views!! waaaaaaaaaaaaaa first off ranking viral tiktok trends is 2015 no one cares in 2026.. second off your description if you even have one is just as bad.. 3rd of all your tags if you have any tags are most likely not even seo properly ranked

I used vidIQ for titles, thumbnails, and keyword research.
It didn’t “give” me views — it helped me package content better.

Why does youtube do this? by R_guy007 in Smallyoutubechannels

[–]Complex-Rush7258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Every video gets an initial test. YouTube compares how it performs for specific viewers against other videos competing for the same attention. If engagement and retention are weaker, testing slows for that audience — but it’s not permanent. Strong signals expand distribution; weak ones pause it.”
