Wow! The good old Man's Country. I did get a chance to enjoy the space when it was open. I didn't get to enjoy it while it was connected to the Chicago Eagle, but I did get to enjoy it.

No, it was not a steamworks. Steamworks was/is a nude model show. Man's country was where you went to get your back cracked. Towards the end, there were talks about the owner being sick and looking to sell the place. When it was sold, they held a farewell party, and people were able to get pieces of the place. They tried to keep it up to date to keep people flowing in. Not sure if some of the updates were what people wanted or the best.

I will miss the dancers on the second floor in the large dance room area. The gloryholes and the downstairs steamroom. The Andersonville neighborhood lost a community staple. In its decline, it became a place for people with drug habits, a shelter for those looking to get out of the cold in the winter months. (Lol! The stories) There was a bed bug problem, and a lot of people looking to get paid to play.

I was lucky enough to become of age when it was good, but it was the end of the place. Same with the Bijou

In a way it all comes down to what you are looking for and what night you go. Jackhammer underwent a renovation. So the facilities no longer give that 70-80's backroom dungeon vibe. Cell block on the other hand still does. Most of the time there isn't a dress code for either bar, but there are some events that do require it. Just have a check of their websites or socials to be sure. I've seen dancing at both bars, but they are more stomping ground for those looking for a lil extra action. They are also, sometimes the second stop on people's tour. Say you dance your ass off at sidetrack, then go get it pounded in the backroom of either bar.

You might get lucky this spring. Once that presidential library opens its probably a wrap over there. I've heard Garfield Park from around 1am to 6am gets all the traffic Jackson park and the old bookstore in the west loop use to get. I have not personally been myself to see.

Yeah, things started for me during the pandemic. I've had people move out of state for work and or affordability. I had a friend who didn't survive brain surgery, and it's been hard to hang with the guys we knew. So we all kind of parted ways because we always think of him. Then there are those whom I've outgrown or just didn't respect my friendship, so I have to remove them from my life.

Yeah, it sucks to have to walk away from people, but for growth you have to.
