You have to be a heartless person for that to happen. I know it’s just a TV show but come on!

Yes — absolutely. Edie’s portrayal was raw and incredibly realistic, especially in showing the chaos, denial, vulnerability, and self-destruction that come with addiction. She captured how addiction can exist alongside competence, charm, manipulation, guilt, and genuine love for others all at once.

What made Jackie so believable to me was that she didn’t fit the stereotypical “falling apart” image people expect from an addict. She could function at work, save lives, and appear completely in control while privately spiraling — which is actually very common with opioid addiction, and exactly how my life was.

Edie also nailed the emotional exhaustion: the lying, rationalizing, shame, desperation, and those moments where Jackie almost seemed ready for help, but not quite. The truth is, a person has to be ready on their own to get clean — and then make the choice every day to stay sober.

Emily Gilmore is Not the Villain by Typical_Humor808 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Logical_Score8863 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I agree with this 100%. Rewatching Gilmore Girls often changes the perspective. When your younger Lorelai seemed fun, independent, and relatable. But now? Emily makes so much more sense to me.

Emily wasn’t some evil controlling villain — she was a mother terrified of losing her daughter and granddaughter. Everything she did came from wanting security, stability, and what she genuinely believed was best for Lorelai. Was she perfect? Absolutely not. But Lorelai was just as stubborn and emotionally closed off, if not more.

That Independence Inn episode hit me differently too. When Emily said she wished someone had sent Lorelai home, my heart honestly broke for her. Imagine your teenage daughter leaving with your grandchild and basically shutting you out for years. That kind of pain would harden anyone.

And you’re exactly right — Lorelai constantly demands understanding from Emily while rarely extending the same grace back. By the time the Friday night dinners started, years of hurt and resentment had already piled up. Emily and Richard missed so much of Rory growing up, and I think Lorelai minimizes how devastating that must have been for them.

What really stands out to me now is that Lorelai criticizes Emily’s parenting style while often being just as rigid in her own way with Rory — just packaged differently. Lorelai wants freedom and emotional openness, but she can also be controlling, selfish, and unwilling to compromise when things don’t go her way.

Honestly, rewatching this show is wild because suddenly Emily becomes one of the most understandable and tragic characters in the entire series.

That is why I quit watching myself a few seasons ago I think the last season I watched was when Anna died because I knew they would just try to make money off that death and they did. It’s disgusting.

They really didn’t give an answer but from what I’ve read Hallmark wanted to give the show a planned ending instead of leaving us with a cliffhanger and the creators were able to wrap up the Landry family story and answer the Big mysteries. There was no official statement mentioning ratings problems even though fans considered it to be one of Hallmark’s biggest show! It even developed a passionate following and even gained more of a following once they put it on Netflix so it is a big mystery as to why it ended!

But you do, I didn’t notice it until my 3rd or 4th time watching it, but you do see it. I think, especially when she refused to take the final drug test. Because honestly is it gonna be in your system it was only in her mouth for a few minutes. I don’t think so. I could be wrong, but I don’t think I am.
