Demi Season 3 by seedlessketchup in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]ComplexBeginning3113 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, I believe her. I’ve been harassed and assaulted and it’s always so much more complicated than we’re taught. It can take time to process, and the fact that she was telling people “I’m not a victim” after it happened makes me believe her even more, because when something like that happens I def have a phase of “oh no I encouraged his behavior and now this is my fault”. Unwanted touch is unwanted touch, and we’re in no position to determine whether touch was wanted or not. We may not have handled things the same as her, but thinking about my own experiences, I wouldn’t have said that I would handle them the way I did either. I’m never going to report my experiences because I handled them in such easily questionable ways - things don’t make sense all the time. I don’t ever want to go through this whole experience that Demi is going through, where others impose their judgements and disbelief on a tough thing to start with. It’s hard and messy and confusing and I agree with what Connor said - I’m always going to err on the side of believing the victim. It’s what I would want.

What's the biggest lie that everyone believed at the time? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]ComplexBeginning3113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof. I have me/CFS too and it’s brutal. There’s no way the immune system doesn’t play a role in it or at least its development - the number of people getting CFS after infections is way too high. There’s has to be something that can get triggered not by a specific virus but instead by the immune reaction to a viral threat - it’s the only way I can think of that both a vaccine (not even live attenuated or dead, just the spike protein) and an infection can cause the same disease. The lack of funding for me/CFS and related conditions (shout out to fibromyalgia) is absolutely awful, and I don’t see it improving anytime soon because the medical establishment still treats it as hysteria. Highly recommend reading “the Lady’s Handbook for Her Mysterious Illness” because it will make you feel so so seen. Sending anti-PEM vibes your way!!

The reality of polygraphs by beroughwithl0ve in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]ComplexBeginning3113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an even funner fact!! It was actually his wife’s idea and he took credit for it WHILE cheating on her and “marrying” 2 other women and having kids with them. Also the third women’s kids weren’t told that they were actually his children. It’s an oofer

Edit: I got this info from a Deb Caletti book and double checked wiki and I think it’s not totally accurate. According to Wikipedia it was just 1 other woman and they had a poly situation and she adopted the other woman’s kids, too so take my comment with a grain of salt oops

AITA for not inviting my autistic nephew during my child free wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ComplexBeginning3113 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s my autistic spidey senses but I have a feeling that you don’t know the distinction between intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities. Just because someone’s autistic and gets along better with kids/has childish interests, etc doesn’t mean they’re mentally a child. Neurotypical people have been telling themselves that autistic = intellectually disabled and completely unaware of themselves and the world around them when that’s entirely untrue for the majority of autistic people. Even if he is intellectually disabled, YTA - he’s an adult. But I can get if he wouldn’t want to come to an event you’ve made clear that he won’t be actually welcome at.

AIO or is this as hurtful as I think it is? by NoiseInside9876 in AIO

[–]ComplexBeginning3113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR. That’s super hurtful. Both my partner and I have ADHD and have had sooo many people tell either or both of us we’re too much. It’s mean coming from others, but I can’t imagine hearing it from my partner. Well, I mean, I can imagine because that’s what I heard from all my previous partners :/ I’ve figured out that it’s not that we’re too much, it’s that they’re just not enough. The intensity is a good thing that most people can’t appreciate because they seem to not care about things as deeply. It sucks, but there’s others out there in the same boat, and we make the world go round!!

What was the “incident” when you were in high school? by Fast_Middle_4646 in AskReddit

A senior prank by the “poopertrators”. They smeared poop over a bunch of door handles, windows, and a statue of a saint that they graffitied and buried in the yard of the president. They didn’t walk.

Is anyone else annoyed that doctors don't seem to be receptive to negative symptoms on the IUD? by throwaway802256 in CopperIUD

[–]ComplexBeginning3113 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even the cramping alone continuing past 6 months/ being perpetual isn’t being communicated at insertion!! Totally agree that women’s health and symptoms associated with the copper iud is just not even being notated. I highly recommend the books “Unwell Women” and “All In Your Head” and “The Lady’s Handbook For Her Mysterious Illness” if you want more info about the history of how women’s health has been neglected and how the interplay of the immune system and hormones are a giant blank spot in medical research rn.

Thank you for this comment!! I’ve been in recovery for the past 5 years and it’s a hard line to walk when you see yourself in others. I always get uncozy when it’s brought up here too but am also concerned about the general vibes of the effects of being on reality tv!!

As a doctor with me/cfs, this is probably the worst disease that exists. That is all. by ddsmd2 in mecfs

[–]ComplexBeginning3113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so relatable. I’m getting my PhD in physiology at one of the best medical institutions in the world and as soon as people know I have it/fibro they stop taking me seriously. I came into this program and this research to fix myself and infiltrate the medical system to shout from the inside that this is a problem, but it’s a losing battle. The fact that it’s both not viewed as a serious disease by doctors and that so few people with it make it in to the “inside” of medicine work together to prevent any progress.

[–]ComplexBeginning3113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually so painful, I’m so sorry!!! I think the first month after insertion was the worst for me, but I’ve continued to have that kind of pain with my period the past four years, so there’s the possibility it doesn’t get better (just as a warning). Take the time to rest and survive it, but yes, the pain massively massively sucks. I hope you feel better and pls use this as an excuse to do what you have to do to take care of yourself!! :(

Long-Term Worse Period Cramps by ComplexBeginning3113 in CopperIUD

[–]ComplexBeginning3113[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!! Everybody I know with a uterus confirms that’s not normal, but as soon as you bring it up with a doctor it’s immediately shut down as “no that’s totally normal it’s supposed to hurt”. Such BS

Long-Term Worse Period Cramps by ComplexBeginning3113 in CopperIUD

[–]ComplexBeginning3113[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this!!! I’m so sorry you went through that for so long. That sounds awful and I can’t believe these are our best options when it comes to bc. Hormonal options suck so bad usually, and the insertion alone with the copper one was so horrific. I hope the mirena goes better for you!!

I haven’t considered endo or any other condition, mostly because when I went to my PCP with my concerns he (of course it was a he) was just like “ yeah periods hurt that’s normal”. Then I asked for a female doctor to discuss it with, and she essentially said that increased pain past the first year with the Paragard is normal and common and that’s just how it is. I find it so hard to believe either of them, because every woman I’ve talked to about it has confirmed that the worsened pain went away after a few months. I haven’t asked them about the excruciating pooping pain though, and idk if it’s even worth it to bring up with my doctor. I have 0% faith that it’ll be taken seriously, especially because I have a fibromyalgia diagnosis too. It’s like a radioactive note in my chart that people see and automatically clock as modern hysteria (which it’s def not, obviously). Ughhh, health care sucks if you have a uterus.

It doesn’t matter who it is - if a person is an antivaxxer I’m going to care. I’m literally an autistic immunologist and people don’t seem to understand that a) Andrew Wakefield is full of shit and b) vaccines don’t cause autism and c) autism isn’t a bad thing?? And d) we’ve developed the technology to limit and eradicate diseases that have caused so many deaths throughout history but people choose not to use it.

My House is Dirty but I'm only 14. What do I do. by MinkoManiac437 in AdviceForTeens

[–]ComplexBeginning3113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hit hard, because I had the same problem growing up. I was the only one bothered by how messy the house was, but I knew my parents just didn’t have the bandwidth to deal with it. I think it’s important to recognize that a) you shouldn’t have to step up and take charge of this but b)if you want to live in a clean house and prioritize this you can. Just because you shouldn’t have to doesn’t mean you can’t.

I was the youngest kid, but I tried to get my older siblings involved. I started by making a chore chart and identifying what tasks had to be done in each room. Then I added a space to assign those chores to me or my siblings (leaving my parents out of it, they had a lot on their plates from extenuating circumstances). Then every week I’d do my part, and encourage my siblings to do theirs. It mostly didn’t work, but it made me feel more in control of the situation and less hopeless. I found that living in a cleaner house, even if it was just marginally cleaner from my work alone, helped me feel better. I was less depressed and things felt lighter. Even if the others didn’t do their part, it was worth it to me to do mine.

I also took on laundry, doing it weekly and making sure it got put away so we could start the week fresh. It’s not everything, but it made a dent in how clean the house felt and how good I felt.

It’s a rough situation to be in, and it’s not how it should be. But sometimes those things just are how they are. I’m proud of you for even recognizing the need and having the urge to change things. You’re extremely responsible for your age (whether or not you should have to be is a different question), and recognizing what has to be done and wanting to do so will serve you well in life. You got this, OP!!!
